What's the spring equivalent of pine cones in a dish?

Happy to be told they were naff but I liked them! I have a few wee wooden bowls (,tasteful, imo) and at xmas i put some pine cones in them when I put Xmas decs up. When decs came down a few "wintery" bits remained...now I realise it's bloody spring and they're still sitting there...going to ditch them but is there a spring equivalent?

Catkins and daffodils in a vase.

CrickityCrickets · 20/03/2025 18:00

A bowl of real yellow chicks.

Catkins and daffodils in a vase.

I'd like to use my tasteful bowls! I do have daffs already 😀

Mini eggs- decorative and edible 😀

Xiaoxiong · 20/03/2025 18:14

Lemons with leaves, easter eggs, or flowering branches in a vase.

NicolaCasanova · 20/03/2025 18:15

daffodils or tulips or painted wooden (or hardboiled) eggs

festivemouse · 20/03/2025 18:15

I have little wooden eggs!

LardoBurrows · 20/03/2025 18:19

Dried flower petals (as recommended by Meghan Markle sorry, I mean the Duchess of Sussex)

Dried lavender or pot pourri (hello the eighties)

Or, my personal favourite, Ferraro Rocher pralines and cream filled eggs

Damekitty · 20/03/2025 18:31

I have painted wooden eggs in a bowl too. They look fab.

Screamingabdabz · 20/03/2025 18:33

Tea dyed eggs. Or decorated eggs. Real ones not plastic.

YourLuckyPearlGoose · 20/03/2025 18:34

Eggs. You can stain the shells if you like by boiling them in water and a few drops of food colouring.

Yuopl · 20/03/2025 18:40

I thought this was going to be about a pine cone jam alternative for putting in a dish 😂
I agree with decorated wooden eggs or something flowery

Helpagirlout222 · 20/03/2025 19:40

Loving the idea of wooden eggs thank you!

Edited

Much like @CrickityCrickets' bowl of chicks where the idiot cat is concerned.

Could go for the full on crafty arty farty and dye some eggs after blowing out the contents. Or buy the blue and white eggs from the supermarket and stick with nature.

Lavenderandbrown · 20/03/2025 19:54

I’ve been seeing blue and white orbs. Like a riff on a Ming vase and some mixed with lemons.

What's the spring equivalent of pine cones in a dish?

I have a beautiful wooden bowl that I bought in Spain. It currently contains two ping-pong balls, a squash ball and two small bouncy balls. Not very seasonal!

Helpagirlout222 · 20/03/2025 20:43

Ooh love the blue orbs! I think they look Mediterranean. Best not Google decorative Mediterranean balls mind you

I am not capable of blowing or dying eggs i don't think! Much as I'd like to be!

I have just blown some of my friend’s eggs which are beautiful colours and I’m going to dangle them from some twigs 😭

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/03/2025 21:00

No tasteful wooden bowls , you need an Easter Tree.
I used to make one for my DC long before they were A Thing.

Painted twigs with white leftover paint , nice ribbons to hang lightweight decorated eggs . Some pussy-willow branches.

Not now , I have cats who'd be in like Exocet missiles .
Can't even risk pebbles'n'twiggy shit , sadly .

Allthesnowallthetime · 20/03/2025 21:03

I thought you meant for eating!

I have decorative bunny hanging decs that I am going to display. And daffodils.

Natsku · 20/03/2025 21:15

Pussy willow twigs. In spring children decorate them with feathers and stuff in my country and give them to neighbours (in exchange for sweets) so very common to have a bundle of decorated twigs in the house.

madaffodil · 20/03/2025 21:26

I found some lovely bright pink rhubarb at a farm shop today, with fresh leaves still attached to the stalks, and I'm now beginning to wonder whether I should have put them into a big glass vase rather than chopping the whole lot up to make crumble.😁

Hope do you keep them in the bowl?
