What’s this man up to?

I live in a terraced house, the house next door is a house share and last week 3 new people moved in. Every morning at 4.40am a car pulls up outside - the same car every day, and one of the guys next door leaves the house (slamming the front door which wakes me up every time) and gets in the back of the car. Car drives off, but pulls back up 20 mins later and the guy gets out and goes back in the house.

I noticed I was being woken up by the door slamming and checked the Ring doorbell which captures all of this every morning.

Quite honestly, it looks dodgy AF, but interested in hearing if anyone else has ideas about what he could be doing for 20 mins every morning at 4.40! And why he gets into the back of a car that doesn’t appear to be a taxi as it’s the same one every day!

What dodginess do you think could be going on at 4:40? Genuine question.

It’s a bit late for drugs or burglaries, I think. Not enough time for burglaries anyway. If he’s going to work I want his job 😁. Does he come back with a newspaper or pint of milk?

Key/alarm code holder being picked up to open up premises? No idea really, but I’d be annoyed to be woken so early every morning!

SulkySeagull · 20/03/2025 06:44

@Lurkingandlearning no milk/newspaper. I thought drugs collection for dealing - doing it early morning in the dark? I really hope not though.

Hopefully he’s a keyholder for somewhere!

Are they Muslim ? Going to the mosque . Morning prayers are about 430 depending on where you live and it’s Ramadan

Why not politely ask him? Explain that you can hear him slamming the front door and it's waking you up.

Makebettermen · 20/03/2025 08:24

Is it to do with breaking fast during Ramadan?

If a neighbour ‘politely asked me’ why I was leaving my house at a particular time and returning a short while later, I would give them fairly short shrift tbh. If they explained they were being woken up I’d apologise and endeavour to be quieter in future but like hell would I explain my routine or movements to a nosy neighbour.

SulkySeagull · 20/03/2025 11:43

I don’t want to politely ask - not because I’m scared of offending him but because if it is a drugs pickup then I don’t want him to know I’ve clocked it and have video footage!

BUT there is a mosque close by! He is literally gone 20mins - would that make sense for prayer times? I don’t know if he’s Muslim but that could (hopefully) be the answer.

Yes I had a look at the prayer times at the local mosque and there is one right at that time. Thanks all, mystery solved (and fingers crossed just temporary sleep disruption)

20 Mins is enough time and it sounds like he is getting picked up by a fellow worshipper

he might continue after Ramadan , he might not

Farkinhell · 20/03/2025 14:21

Perhaps stick a note through the door asking them to close theirs more quietly especially during the night/very early mornings.
