Where to stay in Athens?

Just a one night stop over on way back from islands. Where would be convenient to the port and airport, but nice for a night?

When i did that i stayed right in the centre of Athens in Plaka. It’s not close to the airport or the port obviously, but it meant i could gaze at the Acropolis and have a wander about.

I think i’d only stay near the port or airport if i was coming off a ferry too late to do much else.

I stayed at St George Lycabettus Hotel and it was nice.
