Tips wanted - how to fight off an illness before it starts!

I've had swollen lymph nodes in my neck and a low level sore throat for three weeks, that's sort of coming in and out. I've noticed today that under my chin is also puffy. I feel okay otherwise, but it does feel like I'm trying to fight something off!
I'm drinking lots of water and trying to get fruit and veg and rest, but if anyone's got any suggestions to kick this before it turns into a full blown illness, that would be great! (sensible and less sensible suggestions welcome)

Will try avoiding dairy and wheat, and any excuse to eat spicy food! Do you feel it sort of clears things out?

Honey and lemon. Squeeze a whole lemon into a mug, couple of big dollops of honey, boiling water and drink it all while it’s still hot.

I do the hot lemon, honey and paracetamol, try to get a decent sleep and I'd throw a multivitamin down my neck too

Three weeks with puffy neck? Sounds like thyroiditis not a cold/flu.

RubyGemStone · 19/03/2025 20:39

3 weeks? Are you sure you haven't developed hayfever or an allergy? Its starting to be that season and I've been getting mild symptoms for past month.

Otherwise, fluids, sleep and maybe a nasal spray, make sure everything is flowing clearly.

Vitamin C and zinc effervescent things - two daily until you feel better. Also, first defence spray is amazing!

Suffolker · 19/03/2025 20:45
  1. Saline nasal wash
  2. vit C and zinc
  3. First Defence (or equivalent) sprayed up nose several times a day, for several days (but do saline first)

Also this, but not boiling water (destroys vit c). I usually simmer water with a few bits of fresh ginger, then add to lemon juice once slightly off boiling. Manuka honey is very good with this (but v expensive)
