I'm trying to get a copy of ds birth certificate. It used to be so easy mum its all complicated.

Anyway I went to go on the government site to order one buts it's called passport something now . Anyway it said I can order a birth certificate. But it says i must put the father's details down . But he's not even on the birth certificate. So it would not let me continue. and it was also asking me for a reference number before submitting but there was no reference.

I have included a picture to show where it took me . It never used to look like this.

When I applied for a copy birth certificate I applied to the registrar at the borough council the child had been born in.

If you contact the register office where the birth was registered they'll have a process for sending a copy. You don't have to do it through GRO

Did you log in? I’ve just tried and found my daughter’s. Didn’t ask for father’s details. I am also the only parent on the bc.

If you scroll to the bottom of that page it gives a link to other ways to get the birth certificate. One suggestion is the registry office. www.gov.uk/register-offices

I totally messed up. On the Gro one. I ended up putting the fathers name in even though he's not on the birth certificate. I had never seen that site before. And thought it was all I could do even though it seemed odd . I did it and paid 😭

Then I managed to find the council one that would normally come up and had to do it all again. So irs cost me double.

I can't even get a refund. But in going to contact the gro one tomorrow and explain what I done. I dont want to get done for fraud or something.
