21 month old not walking

My DS is nearly 21 months, and still can't walk. He can if he holds my hand, but only for a bit then starts giggling and falling down. He can pull himself up and cruise round furniture. (He's also only got about 5 words)
I'm actually going crazy with this - sometimes I'm so incredibly worried about him, sometimes I chill out. I even get annoyed and frustrated with him :(( I've taken him to the GP, and we've been referred to a paediatric clinic - but the appointment is at the end of September. I don't know what to do. Just keep waiting and trying to hold my nerve I guess? I don't know how to help him. I have lovely friends who reassure me, but sometimes I just want to scream I'M SO DAMN WORRIED THERE'S SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG AND NO ONE WILL LISTEN.
Sorry. I've read so many threads now, some which petrify me and of course they're the ones I latch on to.
Anyone been in this boat?

@Rabbitreef
Sorry, I know you're not trying to be unkind. I'm just touchy I guess :/

I should contact HV 👍 Although not sure what they'll do if we already have an appointment, can only find out.
I just feel so on edge and defensive about poor DS, wish I could handle this better.

Self refer to community paediatric physio

Does he seem like he could have hyper mobility? Does he sit with his legs splayed out behind him in a W shape or anything? I don’t know if this helps with the speech but I was told that even copying noises/doing impressions counts toward words such as ‘moo’ ‘beep’ etc.

CassandrasCastle · 18/03/2025 12:11

My sister was just telling me about the noises thing actually! In that case he has more like 15 words - so hopefully slightly less below average 😬
I'm wondering about the hypermobility. I think I have it mildly, so he quite possibly does too, although not super evident. I wish the GP had mentioned some of this

How's he getting on? My girl is the same age as yours (currently 22, almost 23 months) and only started walking about a month ago! She is hypermobile. I would definitely recommend a private physio appointment, they're not too expensive, if you can't get anything on the nhs.

Thanks for checking in @PfizerFan He is now walking!!! Just in the last couple of weeks. Bit unsteady still and likes a hand up, but he's got it! The relief... So glad to hear your little girl is on the move too. Have you been getting physio?
