Anyone ever been to Mumbai?

What's it like? I've been fascinated by Mumbai after watching Bollywood films and I'd love to visit the city.

I'm from the south and been to the south many times but have yet to venture North.

Yes. I was there in January, only for a couple of days so didn't have time to do any of the Bollywood tours on offer, unfortunately.

It is very very busy, and pretty westernised compared to other parts of India. Very polluted, not as bad as Delhi but you can see the clouds hanging over. It's a massive city crammed into a fairly small space... Enormous wealth and absolute poverty in close proximity.

The new roads over the ocean to get between north and south mumbai are pretty impressive, and sometimes drivers even keep to their lane and within the speed limit (very much not the case everywhere).

Fun to visit but basically you need a lot of time to do it properly!

How was the weather?

Dh and I used to live in Pune, so it was a frequent weekend trip away for us. I love it. One of my favourite places in India. We mostly stuck to Colaba and South Mumbai so mostly know those bits. I love a Parsi cafe.

How was the weather?

Hot and humid - even though January is winter, it was about 32 degrees in the daytime and not much cooler at night! I did have to make sure I didn't spend all day outside as I'd have been really ill...

Interesting. The south is a lot more pleasant in December/January

I think that in the cities - especially with the layer of pollution - it tends to be less pleasant than less developed areas...

I lived there for 3 years due to my husbands work.
We lived in the north so less busy but plenty good eating places.
We used to escape to Goa every few weeks for a weekend.
