Where should I go on holiday?

I'm looking for holiday recommendations. I'm reasonably well travelled but just not sure where I'd like to go next. Any help gratefully received.

  • Not America or Italy
  • Just me going
  • 1 week, give or take a day or so. I can't do as long as 2 weeks.
  • Late April, May or June.
  • Nice weather (doesn't need to be boiling but don't mind if it is).
  • Travelling from UK, probably Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Teesside or London.
  • I like interesting buildings and/or scenery
  • Hate museums and art galleries
  • Happy with short or long haul but a week isn't long enough for many long haul places.
  • Up to £3000
  • Somewhere where I can easily get by without speaking a second language.
  • Not massively difficult to navigate

Thank you

What about Croatia? Dubrovnik for the buildings and then the surrounding islands formscenary. Could drive towards Split. It’s beautiful.
nice weather too that time of year and not too far to travel.

Would you consider a cruise? There are some lovely itineraries including Balkans, Greece/ Turkey. Should be plenty of nice buildings and history in most the European cruise destinations

I'd add Montenegro. You can travel down the Dalmatian coast from Dubrovnik. I've heard good things about Slovakia too.

Portugal?
Fly to Lisbon but stay in Cascais. There's a good bus service to Sintra the train to Lisbon takes less than an hour.

Thanks all. Not ones I'd thought about. I'll take a look.

Amsterdam
Lots of art galleries & museums
Plus you can get the bus or train to other towns
Centre is easy to walk, tram, bus or bicycle
Lots of second hand markets
Interesting food
Beautiful architecture
Lots of places to sit & watch the world go by
I have been several times & always find new things to see & do
