What is the worst hotel experience you’ve had?

Waiting at the airport before flying to Madrid and just thinking about some of the hotels I’ve stayed at with strange experiences. Two spring to mind. First is one up north of Scotland in May with a freak snow storm. It was freezing but the hotel owner refused to put the heating on as ‘we turn it off at the beginning of May and off it stays until September “. Second was a hotel on the edge of Dublin where the staff read out who had died that week and said if they knew them. It was oddly fascinating.

Mid range Hotel in Birmingham. Called the lift and when the doors opened there was a turd in the middle of the floor. No one to be seen. 🤢

My DH and I stayed at a hotel which a few weeks later closed. The chef had only just finished his course. We had to tick a list for breakfast and evening meal, The owner drank gin and chain smoked she was drunk and whole place smelt of smoke. The place ran out of food the first night so we ended up in a local cafe. We were told to be ready to eat at 6pm or else the chef could not cook for us. DH had been a chef and he said the cook was unable to cook apart from frozen things that he put in the oven. at a certain time. DH asked if he could take over in exchange for a free stay. The owner could not afford to do that and yet everyone in the dining room was impressed with his menu ideas. On the last evening we were a bit late as our bus back dropped us off a little later due to traffic queues. We got back after running into the hotel only to see water dripping from the ceiling. Someone had let a bath overflow. My bed came off its runner and so each morning woke up with the bed being on a slope. It wasn't fixed. I looked at the online local paper and it said Hotel is closing and they wanted memories. I emailed in and it amused the editor. Also in the mornings they played a cassette of 60's music and it used to stick in the same spot each morning. We would get a worthwhile lunch out and treat the evening meal as a snack as it was never very good. It became college accommodation for the college over the road. The young chef did his training there so we wondered how good the course was as he could only do frozen meals. It was obviously a low standard college as DH said he would not have told the chef he was a good cook if he had trained him. Still we laughed at some stage in the future but not at the time .It was like being in hospital being given a tick list for the menu. We ticked as many things as we could as the breakfasts were small.
