If you’ve recently ordered a new passport, how long did it take?

I had my bag stolen today with my passport in it. I was about to use it for a DBS check for a new job (I don’t have a driving license so can’t use that instead).

I’m debating whether to pay more for a fast-track replacement in either 1 day or 1 week, but I’m sure my last passport application only took about 2 days through the normal service.

Please help a stressed person out and share recent experiences.

I was in a similar situation in January . I had to apply for a dbs so I applied for my passport replacement as mine had expired . I cancelled my old one the same day ans I applied for my new one and they gave me a reference number .

It would’ve been less than a week but no one told me that I had to give them my reference number for the passport I had cancelled . So I received 2 emails just telling me to send my documents but to ignore the email if I had already sent them or if it wasn’t applicable . So I called the passport office on the Monday as nothing had moved on the tracker for over a week . The person on the phone couldn’t see the delay apparently and I asked her if it was the reference number and she said she didn’t know so I gave her the reference number anyway she said she would update my application .

on the Friday still no movement . So I sent an online message to them giving them the reference number and within 3 mins someone called from the passport office . That was what the hold up was !!! They were waiting for that even though no email said that and the woman on the phone didn’t either !!
She sent it to print that day and it was posted and I received it on the Tuesday . So really quickly .

I don’t understand why when they cancel your old passport it doesn’t just have a place on the system where if you apply for a new one that just updates to say yes the old one was cancelled !! All that bloody faff and it really held up my dbs checks .

Thank you for this, now I’ll know what to do when I get to this stage!

My new passport is coming tomorrow after less than a week!

Sharing my timeline for anyone who finds this on search:

Saturday: reported passport stolen, ordered new one but needed identify verification
Sunday: identity verification done
Wednesday: application approved, passport printed
Thursday: received tracking number for Friday delivery

I renewed an unexpired passport online using photo code from a photo booth. New passport came back within the week, and the old passport (which you have to send off to them) was back with its corner off in less than ten days.

Online application for renewal on Friday. Old passport posted on Saturday. New passport delivered early Friday.

Renewed both kids passports last week.
Took photos in the bathroom against a white wall.
DS's age 15 took 9 days.
DD's age 10 took 10 as I had to get a friend to verify her.
Old passports were sent back 2 days after. Very quick turnaround!

I'm going through the process now, sent off old Passport Friday got confirmation today its been approved and on the way. I was surprised as the photo was awful (looked very washed out)

OH on the other hand is being a bit tricky. His old one is so old he has to apply as though its a first Passport. His is still a blue one from first time round

Did it online on the Monday, and sent old passport back the same day, special delivery, new passport was delivered on the Thursday, so 4 days, was a straight forward renewal. Sent my daughter's off a week later and hers also took 4 days, both passports processed in Hemel Hempstead, if that helps.

Yes mine was processed at Hemel, they received my old one Monday and I'm waiting for delivery today

OH has just had this message, he doesn't have the original from 64 years ago, I always thought certified copies were acceptable
