what would you feed them?

DH is taking ds away for the weekend so I've got the house to myself. I'm having 'the girls' round for cocktails and food. 8 of us, all in our 40s. All day and night, some are staying over so will do breakfast too!

Chilli, rice, nachos, salad and home made coleslaw?

Cheese and meats with bread, pate etc

Something else entirely?

I would have headed to an online supermarket and ordered some fancy buffet food but probably too late to arrange that now!

For me, I'd prefer your charcuterie board idea over chilli and nachos. Plus some olives, dips, veggies, bread, fruit. Just easy to pick at bits that aren't going to spill out all over your clothes when you're a cocktail or two down. Also, no prep needed, just arrange everything on nice plates or boards.

As it's an all day / all night thing, then yes you need dinner. So I like your idea of the chilli, nachos, (guacamole for me 😉) etc... served early evening. Then cheese, charcuterie etc... later that night.
Plenty of water on hand*, especially if you're on wine for hours!

Enjoy, sounds fab!!!

*I was in Sweden once on holidays and they served a glass of water with every glass of wine - I now try to do that at home, it's saved me many a time 😁

Yes to Mexican fare, then i would have cheese board, some freezer snacking foods like mini sausage rolls and tempura prawns, gyoza etc and plenty of bacon

I like doing a Mexican buffet type thing, I did a leg of lamb once which was well received (a more Moroccan type thing). Last week I did a chicken with Mexican spices which I carved to go into wraps and some mince taco filling. Loads of cheeses / olives / salsa/ salads etc. I bought the pocket wraps because they are easy. Loads of nachos is a must.

maybe have some cheese / sausage rolls / crisps you could pull out later if you need refuelling later on. Then a continental type breakfast in the morning or maybe bacon rolls

it sounds fun enjoy yourself

Have a look at Cook and just stick it all in the oven. Their duck leg is fabulous as is their roulade. Honestly if you can afford just buy it all. That said if you’re going to do Mexican get the Mexican layered dip from M&S!

The chilli is more substantial and will soak up the booze better.

Definitely a balance of nibbly things to keep you going and a proper dinner to 'reset' you. Depending on the cocktails I suspect I'd want something sweet at some point as well but that might just be me. Little light options like chocolates, macaron or baklava rather than a full on dessert though.
