Hi,

  1. I have been offered a full time place at ULaw to do a LLb (Hons) Law Degree ONLINE full time for 4 years including a foundation year.
  2. I receive child maintenance from ex husband.
  3. I receive UC with housing element & LCWRA and I have a son 17 doing A Levels that I get UC for. I am an appointee for both for their PIP.
  4. I have daughter 19 full time student at UAL living with me full time and she receives, bursary and maintenance loan with student finance.

Questions

  1. If I apply and say my mental health issues do not affect my ability to study ON CAMPUS but the course I’ve been accepted for is ONLINE full time AND I receive LWCRA due to my mental health will this affect my benefits?
  2. My daughter found out yesterday that she has to reapply every year for her SF, is this correct?
  3. Will my increase in benefits (the LWCRA and both my childrens PIP also lifting the benefit cap since her first application) affect her application?
  4. Will her re application affect my application or benefits?

Forgot to add, I’m anxious about anything changing in my income because I rent privately.

Yes student finance is applied for annually, yes it will affect you benefits because not all benefits are payable when in receipt of student finance, pip is not affected. Her student finance affects your benefits. You need specific advice

Hi,

i have been told that because the course I am doing is online full time and I have a child of 17 I WONT be entitled to the maintenance part of the student loan and therefore it WONT affect my UC at all. If you are eligible for the maintenance part of the loan whether you want it or not they deduct it from your UC. I also have LWCRA so when he starts uni as long as I have PIP by then too it won’t affect the UC. I have an application for PIP going through.

i spoke to SFE and my daughters SF including her maintenance loan whilst living with me full time does not affect 1) my UC or 2) my own SF application. 3) as I am in receipt of benefits I was told to enter 0 for income on the application for my daughter and for myself.

so all is good after being a stay at home mum for 20 years due to my children’s asd and adhd and further my own mental health due to enduring 10 years of post separation economic abuse from my ex husband (who has consistently fought the financial consent order)- studying a law degree at home will allow me to work towards a future of financial independence for myself, engage me mentally and as it’s online at home will allow me to recover psychologically and emotionally in a safe calm environment 💜
