Travelling (flying) from Switzerland to Uk

Sorry if this is a really silly question. Was checking in online and it mentioned that an extra document- ETA?- may be required.
However I put in my passport details and it let me check in.
Are any extra documents needed these days or is it just boarding pass and passport.
Thanks!

If you do not have a UK or Irish passport then you need an ETA now.

Ah right- thanks!

You do not need an ETA if you are travelling on a UK passport.
You do not need an ETA if you are travelling before 2nd April (I think).

I travelled from London to Zurich and back a few weeks ago and didn't need any additional docs. I've never heard of an ETA!

PatienceOfEngels · 13/03/2025 05:57

Just being introduced. I have to organise for the rest of my family for our UK trip in April/May who have EU passports. I have hardly seen any info about them! By chance saw a post by the British Embassy in my country of residence on social media.

cakeorwine · 13/03/2025 08:08

What happens if you arrive at the UK Border without one and you need one?

DefyingGravidy · 13/03/2025 08:13

Is this an ETA for coming back to U.K. (that we wouldn’t need with U.K. passports), or for going into Switzerland after 2nd April??

GoldenJay · 13/03/2025 08:39

You don’t need ETA if you are British Citizen or have a settled or pre settled status as a EU citizen.
ETA is only for short term visitors to the UK.

elQuintoConyo · 13/03/2025 14:00

Er... So my 13yo on a Spanish passport needs an ETA to enter UK next week? I have British, so I know I'm good.

Sorry to hijack your thread Summerbreak22

NCIRL · 13/03/2025 14:08

@elQuintoConyo I think only if you're staying in the Uk after 2nd April.

elQuintoConyo · 13/03/2025 14:09

Thank feck NCIRL thanks.

I'll look into it later myself, but thank you.

Same, we had no idea! I‘m British but my DH and DC are all Swiss passport holders and we live in Switzerland.

I mentioned to my hairdresser that we were going to visit my family in UK at Easter and she informed me about the ETA!

I can imagine a lot of people will get caught out. I haven’t seen anything anywhere at all!
