What is the indent in my child’s head?

Over the past week, I’ve noticed an indent in my child’s forehead. She is nearly 12, and I have genuinely never noticed it before. At first, I thought maybe it was just the vein below being more obvious, but I’ve felt it and it’s a definite indent along the same line the vein goes down.

DD has had many health issues, and so things like this just give me a bit of a fear straight away. I’m hoping it’s just normal anatomy, but something I haven’t noticed before. Can anyone confirm, is it normal to have an indent around this area? I can’t feel one on my forehead.

Sorry if this sounds silly. I’m just a worrier. Will also ask the GP at her next appointment.

I have this too OP! You can't really see it on my forehead because of all my wrinkles but I can definitely feel it. In my case, it starts at the inner edge of my left eyebrow and goes up into my hairline. There isn't one above my right eyebrow.

I've been aware of this dip for years, but I don't know how I got it. I'm sure I'd have realised if I'd fractured my skull at any point, so I'd guess it's just something I was born with. I don't have any unusual health problems.

I have the same dent, exact same place.

Two years ago I opened my car door on my head and the dent has never gone….in the past few weeks I’ve thought about going to the gp in case it’s important and unconnected to the car situation- at the time it was an almighty whack. No bruises. Hoping somebody can give us some ideas!

Thanks for the replies! Google was actually quite scary, so trying not to worry too much about what I saw on there. It’s literally exactly where her vein is. I feel like I would have noticed it before if she has always had it.

I imagine it’s where the plates of our skull are formed and joined in utero.

This shows how the plates join.

I have one. I first noticed it when I was 17 and I'm 52 now. I never asked about it, but nothing has happened to me because of it!

Me too. Same place.

I know at least a couple of people with this
