Cheese every day

It would make an interesting Hugh Fearnley book!

If I could have my own way I would rarely eat hot food.

I would live on a combination of:
Avocado with cheese
Fruit with cheese
Nuts with cheese
Crackers with cheese
Olives with cheese
Ham with cheese
Crusty french baguette with cheese
Grilled cheese, maybe..

But life isn't that simple, and it could potentially unbalance my diet. I tend to eat fairly well in general, but whenever I have to compile a shopping list, like today, I start dreaming about this list. Of course I do eat cheese with these things, but not all of the time like I'd prefer to.

Anyone else have an unwavering desire or food preference like that?

A few days ago, for reasons best known to myself, I googled, "Most craved foods."
"Food cravings why?" and similar. I mainly wanted to know whether it was related to nutritional deficiencies.

Unsurprisingly, chocolate was number one according to wikipedia but I didn't believe their number two at all. I really thought it would be cheese. You'll never guess it and I swear that some kind of disruptor has got in and changed the wiki. I have never heard anybody, of any ethnicity, nationality, any kind of background say, "I'm really craving...this"

I'll give you a few guesses.

I had a cheddar and cheese and onion crisps tiger roll for lunch today. I could probably live on them. 😁

I'm quoting myself here but the offending, 'Nobody has ever craved this' misinformation from wikipedia item is well known to ruin a popular italian cheese based dish.

Pineapple?

Pineapple?

Yay! You got it! When have you ever had an overwhelming desire for pineapple though? It's just not true!

When have you ever been thinking to yourself, "I wonder if the all night pineapple van is open?" or, " What a terrible day, a bit of pineapple would revive me and help me through the afternoon."

Pedallleur · 11/03/2025 19:17

Would eat it every day if I could afford it (Like expensive cheese). A French philosopher once said 'a dinner without cheese is like a beautiful woman with only one eye'

Ineffable23 · 11/03/2025 19:21

I eat cheese basically every day. I usually have 6+ sorts in the fridge. (Pretty much always have cheddar, parmesan, halloumi and feta in, then have a few of blue cheese, mozzarella, camembert, Gruyere, Comte, goats cheese and any other speciality one I fancy.)

I love cheese - I often have cheese based meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Me too! Sometimes I have to really challenge myself to have a meal that does not include cheese.

How's all our cholesterol doing, cheese people?
I am due for a check up!

I love cheese and also eat it almost every day .nothing better than a selection of cheeses , chutneys and fresh bread with a glass of wine !

Hobbitfeet32 · 11/03/2025 20:30

I eat cheese everyday. At most meals. And as a snack. My cholesterol is tip top.

Gliblet · 11/03/2025 20:40

I did one of the ultrachallenge walks - 50k in about 10 hours up and down some insanely steep hills - and what got me up the worst of the hills was knowing I had little individually wrapped portions of cheese in my rucksack that I was 'allowed' if I made it to the top 😁

I did this with lakeland fells, urged on by locally made carrot cake.
I think I love you Grin

My cholesterol is ok, the bad one is a bit high but so is the good one (I eat a lot of seeds, oily fish etc as well
as all the cheese) so the ratio is fine.

HundredPercentUnsure · 11/03/2025 23:02

Avocado with cheese?! 🤢

I love cheese but if we're talking about food we eat everyday for me it is chocolate. Now that is unhealthy.

Eat better chocolate

Cheese is absolutely disgusting. I know it's in chat but yabvu. I'd be happy if it was banned.

If you’ve never read any Becky Chambers novels (cosy sci-fi) there’s a scene in one where a bunch of different alien species (no humans, though one has a human boyfriend) trapped together on a random planet bond over describing this mythically disgusting human food which involves taking milk from other mammals, letting it solidify with bacteria, and eating it.

SnowMoss · 11/03/2025 23:14

mmm, that probably won't put us off though. I definitely can see the weird side. I feel the same about meat, but still eat some occasionally.

I was reading a cheeseboard thread, that really brought out the very, very weird smelly cheeses. I recall a Guardian article last year where the author spoke about the affect cheese has on us, right up to it having deeply embedded class connotations (well yeh, it's the Guardian, lol). Apparently the smellier the cheese posher it is. And don't forget to brush up on how to slice or cut into it.

Humans are insufferable beasts.

That's it, I'm off to the kitchen for cheese and an apple

Triptraptrippytap · 12/03/2025 01:23

I love cheddar cheese with red onion, grilled on a panini.

UniversalOutrage · 12/03/2025 01:27

I bloody love cheese. Haven’t eaten much for a few weeks as I have had a shock bereavement, and now I craving a cheese toastie.

I do like a combo of cheddar cheese, peanut butter and curried fruit chutney. If I can’t get the currier fruit chutney, switch for mango chutney. Usually have this on a Ryvita.

At least you would have happy bones from plenty of calcium (unlike the multitude of dairy avoiders).

Can I add cheese on toast with mushrooms and Worcestershire sauce to your wish list please?

Edited

Cheese on toast with green pimento stuffed olives is a great quick dinner.

CalicoPusscat · 12/03/2025 01:41

Piccalilli with cheese is nice

Lavenderandbrown · 12/03/2025 02:07

I eat cheese multiple times a week. all different cheeses. Sometimes lunch with an apple and wheat thins sometimes dinner with wheat thins and olives. Very rarely a glass of wine but it’s a quite lovely accompaniment. Despite the salt calories and I guess cholesterol I have always thought of cheese as a healthy option. Snack of cheese and apple seemed healthy to me until mumsnet informed me it was not. I pretended not to notice.
