Would you buy a flat and leave the city behind?

In my position? I have a life limiting illness I’m hoping I will respond to my next lot of treatment. I’m buying time really and I don’t know how long that is could be years but might not be. I am late fifties. Love London but rent. I have the chance to buy in my dull town one of two flats. One ground one not. I won’t have a mortgage but I won’t have any savings left either. The plan would be to try and go back to work if I can manage and save every month. I did take my nhs pension so could live up north quite comfortably. I’ve never owned property before.
I am having excellent care in London and have a carer everyday and everything is set up for me. Very good friends but I know my family feel isolated from me.
does anyone think this is a good or bad idea?

I say this as gently as possible but if I was ‘buying time’ I’d be prioritising living my best life (in a place I wanted to be) not making the best long term financial decision. It sounds like you don’t want to leave London? being close to London hospitals would also be a priority for me in your situation. I hope your next lot of treatment goes well.

I'm sorry for your situation.

For me it depends if you want to move from London to Hull?

Given your illness, it's more important than ever to do what your gut and heart tell you IMO.

Oh god it’s my family they want to look after me. I am living a great life in London and throwing money at doing fun things so that’s not the issue. However there will be a time when I can’t and that’s when I’d have to move as much as I love my friends I can’t expect them to nurse me. I don’t get on well enough with my family to actually live with them I’m very independent. My heads all over the place.

the hospitals is a very big deal for me.
