Those stupid hanging ribbons on clothes

Does anyone actually use these? They do nothing but irritate me so I chop them off anything new.
I can see that on a very wide necked dress or top perhaps they might have a use but it seems manufacturers just put them on everything now even pyjamas.
Who on earth hangs their pyjamas up anyway?!

Definitely pointless for pj bottoms. I do use them for tops and dresses so that they don't fall off the hanger

BlondiePortz · 11/03/2025 10:21

I presume they do it as some pyjamas are hung in the shops but yes at home people don't usually, I do use the ones on tops

Normallynumb · 11/03/2025 16:08

I cut them off immediately
It's easy enough to hang a top without them.
Never seen them on bottoms, but I don't own pyjamas

Arran2024 · 11/03/2025 16:08

They are purely for hanging them in the shop. I just cut them all off

Dustyblue · 11/03/2025 23:50

They're also for hanging the clothes in container ships. So many clothes are made offshore and arrive packed on ships. They need to be secure and not arrive heaped on the floor. Would be a nightmare for the people checking off thousands of bundles at the destination end.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 11/03/2025 23:52

I cut them off immediately.

If it's something that might slip off the hanger, I use a suede one.

ETA: Or do I mean velvet? Either way, a textured hanger 😊

EBearhug · 11/03/2025 23:54

I use them on dresses, but cut them off from T-shirts, trousers, PJs, jumpers.

MarieKlepto · 12/03/2025 00:03

Chop 'em! The cotton ones, no problems, but the wormy plastic ones (had them on clothes in all price brackets) - they end up with scratchy little ends so DH, who hates any labels in his clothes gets the stitch unpicker out, extracts them completely and I do a little hand stitch to finish. Clothes surgery at the dining table basically!

Britneyfan · 12/03/2025 00:29

I used to use these loads, otherwise my clothes all ended up on the floor. I use them less so now we have those velvet flocked hangers that “grab” onto clothes. I do hang up my PJs!! Mainly because I have a massive built in wardrobe with endless hanging space but no drawers!

SnowFrogJelly · 12/03/2025 00:37

Always chop em

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 12/03/2025 00:55

I also cut them off the moment I decide to definitely keep the item. Ive got silicone covered hangers for anything that wants a hanger but will easily fall off.
I dont get why people leave them on!

ThirdGeneration · 12/03/2025 01:09

I cut them off and save them - they make perfect ribbons for home-made gift tags.

Needspaceforlego · 12/03/2025 01:19

I saw a MN post with someone who saves them for Christmas tree baubles.
