I see a lot of endorsements on line about how these two different products really improve sleep and mood. Of course I’ve no idea if their true or not, what does mumsnet think?

I have one that I got to help with migraines - it does work. I think it’s a similar premise to cold water exposure - it’s a good type of stress for the body so stimulates feel good hormones. I don’t use it as much as I should but I definitely reach for it now and again and find it helps.

I have just got a Shakti mat (or similar) after seeing a recommendation on here and it's amazing for my neck and lower back tightness. It was £15 from Amazon.

GameOfJones · 08/03/2025 18:43

I also have a cheap one off Amazon and love it. I bought it for my bad back and aim to lie on it for 20 minutes two or three times a week. I do find that I feel great after I get up from it.....a very similar endorphin rush to cold water swimming like a PP said.

I have a shakti mat and I also love it. I find it very relaxing and it helps a lot with my back pain. I think there are people who it suits and people who can’t get past the initial discomfort to get to the nice bit. I agree it’s like cold water swimming. I swim all year round, 6c seas, love it, it’s very relaxing for me. Some people can never get past the initial feeling of cold and give up. You kinda have to know what sort of person you are.

Four positive endorsements! Thankyou so much for responding. I’m sold, definitely going to invest in one!

looks as though the grounding mats/sheets are less used.

Two schools of thought: if you're not sure, go for a cheapie off Amazon.

THOUGH, the original Shakti mat is not only fairtrade, but it is genuinely a cut above. They also have a decent return window if it's not for you (think it's 60 days, but check on their website).

I bought mine last month after a recommendation from a friend who's had hers for years. Bloody love it. Some days my skin is more sensitive than others so I have to wear a thin T-shirt, other days, I'm bra only. I am much calmer and breathe SOO much deeper afterwards.

I have a shakti mat and use it every day for a min 20 minutes. It helps immensely with my shoulder pain

capybaraforlife · 01/01/2026 14:35

I got a grounding sheet with much excitement, hoping it would solve my lifelong insomnia. Nothing, nada, zip. Totally useless don't bother.

DeborahVance · 01/01/2026 14:38

I love my Shakti mat. I am slightly addicted to it, it is sooo relaxing

Fluteytooting · 01/01/2026 14:44

Another vote for a Shakti mat. It’s used daily in our house. I’ve looked at grounding mats but I’m not convinced currently…

Beenquee · 01/01/2026 14:45

Thanks all - I went Shakti, and agree it’s addictive!
