Small things that make you happy

My dog is really itchy at the moment and I was recommended a treatment called Thornit powder.

The instructions were written as if it was the 1950s. There was something really heartening and comforting about it!

Our sofa is by a large window, and I love curling up in the corner to read with a nice hot cup if coffee when it's absolutely chucking it down.

It's a fenced off garden on that side which has an open park behind it, so it's usually pretty quiet aside from the rain sounds.

The narcissus bulbs that have grown and bloomed around the rose that I inherited from my mum after she died 2 years ago. Feels like a little bit of mum is reminding me she is still here with me.

Clean bed sheets on a Friday night.
Nice smelling wax melts.
Warm, freshly baked bread with salted butter.
My dog curling up on me and sighing contentedly.
Our rescue cat trusting me enough to sit on me and head rub me.
A nice cup of coffee on a Saturday morning.

I went to crufts today , rarely do days out and life seems to be work / college / clean /worry about elderly parents and repeat. It is a small thing and a big thing to have a day out - I love dogs so had been looking forward to it. I know some people have lots of days out and big holidays etc. Can't do that but did love my day out 🐕❤️

whatisforteamum · 07/03/2025 19:50

Day off today
Shampooed carpets
Coffee really early with both cats on the bed
My daffodils opened today
Freshly baked hot cross buns made the kitchen smell delicious.
Sunshine

Recently: the signs of spring; filling the skip we ordered with all the crap from the garden, builders’ rubbish and general awfulness that I’ve been looking at for far too long; my new huge cupboard in the kitchen alcove; my new dry robe.

Always: the pot of tea in the morning, a nice warm bed, sitting round a camp fire, drumming, my house full of books and colour, my loved ones obvs, and having my own vehicle.

Watching my pet rabbits binky round the garden

Phoning my mum. She's 84 and it's been a rocky road at times with her but she's quite unexpectedly mellowed with age, which people would have you believe never happens. Every day counts as they get older.

This is lovely. I wish my mum was mellowing .

Blackcountryexile · 07/03/2025 20:09

Finding a book in the library that I've been looking forward to reading.

Ahwig · 07/03/2025 20:10

My naughty mischievous cat tuning in and noticing I'm having a bad day and snuggling into my neck and purring in my ear. Gorgeous.

DancingFerret · 07/03/2025 20:13

A good night's sleep.
Sun!
Our cats rolling on their backs and basking in the sun on our patio.
Green shoots heralding the arrival of Spring.

honeyfox · 07/03/2025 20:16

Spring definitely!

Tulips and books at the moment.

MummytoE · 07/03/2025 20:17

Not having to hunt for matching gloves in the morning and then battle them on to kids for the school run

Serennityoption · 07/03/2025 20:17

I love getting into a freshly made bed with lovely smelling clean sheets.

OverthinkingOlive · 07/03/2025 20:18

Here's a weird one. Look up Googlebox on Netflix and listen to the Channel 4 ident at the end of the episode. That particular chime makes me feel so cozy. I just think of a dark, Sunday night lying under a blanket somewhere quiet and imagining the world around me winding down at the end of the week. I've no idea why it makes me feel that way.

That's amazing I hope you had a wonderful time.

I went to the cinema on my own for the first today. A small cinema in my city. Only 4 other single people in there. It was bliss. I took in a cappuccino and a bag of popcorn and it was total escapism.

The feeling when you try to skim a stone and it just "boops" perfectly off the water.

Skimming a stone on a frozen canal over winter gave me a feeling of bliss! I can't even describe the noise it was incredible 😂

For me, as always, it is cleaning the house and lighting a lovely smelling candle.

Tooty78 · 07/03/2025 20:35

Another vote for getting into bed with freshly laundered sheets, especially after a home pedicure!

Excellent. I've done that. What did you see?

Meadowflower2023 · 07/03/2025 20:52

When my DH takes the recycling out to the bin without me asking.

Also line dried washing (first of the year for me yesterday too)

OhBobbins · 07/03/2025 20:52

A colleague showed me their stress-relieving spray recently. It was just water and a few drops of essential oil in a small spray bottle so I made myself one with a few drops of lavender essential oil. No chemicals like shop-bought pillow sprays and it's so lovely to spray around you during the day for a moment of calm.
