It's an unopened small pack. Was going to cook in a mushroom, spinach and tomato pasta sauce. Would you? Tia.

Yeah, they’ll be fine.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/03/2025 17:44

Do they smell ok? Bacon is rank when it’s off.

If they do, I’d eat them, my stomach’s lined with Kevlar. Wouldn’t give to a young child or vulnerable person though, just in case.

Sniff test it. You’ll know if it’s off.
Sealed and kept in the fridge they’ll probably be fine.

Absolutely-I'd do the sniff test but bacon is pretty good for ages past the use by date if the packet is still sealed.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/03/2025 17:48

(Smoking is a very traditional way of preserving meats. Whole smoked hams were until really relatively recently hung on kitchen ceilings/in butchers and slices taken off for weeks and weeks. Our son had a big , traditional smoked chorizo in his Christmas stocking. I kept it in the shed for about a month before wrapping it, he’s been using it ever since, couple of inches left and it’s good, very tasty.)

No problem

KnickerFolder · 06/03/2025 17:50

I am incredibly fussy with out of date food but bacon/pancetta/lardons are cured so I would probably eat them if there is no discolouration or smell and they aren’t damp or slimy to touch.

HalfTermHoliday · 06/03/2025 18:15

Yes I would if they look/smell ok. I'd probably not give them to a young child or anyone otherwise vulnerable, just so I didn't have that niggling doubt to worry about. If you have that niggle for yourself too op then just chuck em, your peace of mind is worth more.

Dr13Hadley · 06/03/2025 18:22

Yeah I would

Effingcars · 06/03/2025 18:31

Is the package still OK - not blown/swollen? If not blown (swollen) and smelt and looked OK, then I would still use it.

QueenOfHiraeth · 06/03/2025 18:59

I would use it. It's cured, smoked and in a sealed pack, probably would last another 10 years!

EveryOtherNameTaken · 06/03/2025 19:05

Yes. It's smoked so should be fine.

LindorDoubleChoc · 07/03/2025 15:51

I opened the pack, they smelled fine, I cooked them, the pasta was very good if I say so myself, we're all still alive today Smile. Thanks all for answering.
