Where to sell brand new, unused sofa

The sofa and matching chair that we saw in the showroom, measured and thought would look good in our room has been delivered this week just looks awful - it's far too big and very 'tall'. I can't return it as we had it made up in a different fabric but it cannot stay. I am gutted as I was so excited to have a new sofa after having had the same one for 25 years.
Do you know of any sites that will buy unused new sofas that are second hand, if you know what I mean, please?

Post a picture. It might be that a MNer is looking for exactly what you have.

Are you sure you can't return it? Lots of places will refund if you don't love it. Most sofas are made in individual fabrics. Just checked the returns policy on the sofa I got made in a certain fabric and they 'we're sure you'll love it but if for any reason you don't' etc etc

Distance selling regulations might also apply if you bought it online?

Thanks but no, I can't return it - I had to sign away that right when I bought it in the different fabric.
Good idea re posting a picture @EffortlesslyInelegant .

Can you make it work by removing some other furniture to give it a more space?

tyish · 06/03/2025 07:52

Will it really not work at all? It's really difficult to sell sofas, you're likely going to lose the bulk of your money. I think I'd grin and bear it!

EBay
Facebook Marketplace

(Buyer collects)

Maybe try living with it for a while. Sometimes when you get a new piece of furniture it can feel odd and out of place as you’re not used to it being there. You might grow to like it 🙂

I think if you sell it you're going to have to accept you lose the bulk of your money.

SkaneTos · 09/03/2025 21:48

I agree with @Scotsgirl001 ! Try living with the sofa for a while.

I also think you should try and give it a go for a while. You will be lucky to get anything at all for them. People do sell furniture but not for much.

Gundogday · 09/03/2025 21:52

Can you put throws on it or get it re-upholstered?

A friend was getting rid of a sofa recently, originally for a hundred pounds, but ended up giving it away. That was on their local Facebook marketplace. I don’t imagine you’ll get anything close to what you paid for it, so be prepared to lose hundreds on it.

RandomMess · 09/03/2025 21:57

Are you sure it's not just the shock of seeing something so different in the space?
