Come Join Me - 40 days of Lent

I don’t usually do anything or give anything up for Lent, however I thought I would try this year if anybody would like to join me?

I have decided to try do at least one thing (hopefully more) per day for the 40 days of Lent.

My life has been pretty chaotic recently and one of the reasons for this lifestyle came to an end on Monday, which was the perfect time for me to get my life, my house, my fitness and hopefully my mental health back on track.

I have already done two ‘positive’ tasks today but hopefully I might manage a few more before bedtime.

Please feel free to join me, even if it’s not everyday! I would love to chat to people trying to make small positive changes.

I think that adding positive changes to your life is a good idea and more likely to be stuck to than avoiding something that you probably really like.

In the past I have stuck with giving up meat when I used to eat it, and going vegan now I no longer do, but a couple of years I've had to give up on vegan as I just didn't feel healthy. Giving up sugar / chocolate didn't last very long and I wouldn't even attempt giving up alcohol (not a massive drinker anyway).

So - I will add water and increase my vegetable consumption - particularly the variety (not relying on broccoli every day!). Just had surgery so increasing exercise isn't an option at the moment .

I have been very productive today, I did have the day off work though so I doubt I’ll be able to keep up this amount of positives for the next 40 days….

-Today I have taken myself off for a 4km walk to the supermarket instead of driving. Which meant my steps for the day was 14k.

-Completed a 14 hour fast, hoping to up it tomorrow to 16hours.

-Pulled the bed out and vacuumed under the base (I really don’t want to admit how much dust was underneath 🤭

-Washed the master bedroom curtains.

-Managed to do both morning and evening skin care routines! This is an achievement for me as I’m usually rushing in the morning or too tired at night so usually miss one of them.

-Posted something I’ve been meaning to put on Vinted for a loooooong time. It sold within a couple of hours, which has spurred me on to have a clear out at the weekend and put some more on.

-Finally called up a company I’ve had a subscription with that I haven’t made use of for almost a year and cancelled it. I cannot believe I did not do it sooner as it’s £54 a month. I know I have at least one more subscription that also needs to be cancelled.

@ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea I can totally relate to your point of not lasting very long when you completely cut something out. I do applaud you for sticking with a vegan diet for a couple of years. I’m not sure I could, I do have a couple of meat free days a week though so I guess that’s a start 🤣

Upping your water intake is a great one, during summer I drink gallons of water but this time of year I really struggle.

sorry to hear about your recent surgery. Wishing you a speedy recovery ☺️

Good luck tomorrow!

As predicted I haven’t done as much as I did yesterday. Todays positives included;

-Walking to the post office to drop the parcel off I sold on Vinted yesterday, and then to the garage followed by the shop for a couple of things I had bought from Vinted. I would have usually drive.

-Had a long soak in the bath and applied a sheet mask. Followed by a foot moisturising pack afterwards. I can’t say my face feels any better or looks any different but my feet definitely feel better. I was starting to get some blisters from the walk.

-I’ve managed to drink about 3L of water today.

-Called up Sky as my TV and Internet are now out of contract and was due to pay around £150 a month, they offered a ‘deal’ of £85 a month however I’ve gone for a similar service with virgin media for only £39.99 a month.

-Invited a friend over for dinner so it was lovely to have a catch up. I probably ate too much but managed another fast today, only 15 hours though.

I’m currently in bed reading a book rather than watching something on TV.

Well done. Good for you!

Keep it up! This is all very inspirational. 👏

Hi @PositiveChanges4Lent
You are doing really well !

I think maybe I wasn't clear about 'going vegan', I was talking about doing this for lent a few years, not that I had stuck to this for the whole period.

I could certainly do with getting on top of a bit of sorting out, I am terrible at not returning clothes I've ordered online so have stuff I want to put on vinted, but at the moment I'll stick with drinking my extra water and keeping up with my little walks.

Thank you @dijonketchup & @MrsSkylerWhite

@ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea Ahh sorry I misunderstood, however it’s still a great achievement reducing your animal product consumption for lent even if you missed a few days.

Im also guilty of that, you would have thought that by now I would have realised I just waste money when buying clothing online. I’m an awkward in between size, so the majority I buy is either too big or small and I’m not organised enough to send it back within the time frame.

I hope you managed to keep up the water intake today. Did you get chance to get out for a walk?

Day 3’s positives..

-Had my first PT session today, I struggled with some of the upper body exercises, but managed okay with the core and legs.

-Had a swim after my PT session and relaxed in the hot tub and sauna afterwards.

-Walked 11km which equated to 14k steps again.

-Fasted for 16 hours today.

-Drank 2.7L of water

-Uploaded 5 items on Vinted, one sold straight away so I’ve already taken it to the delivery drop off.

I usually go to my friends for a few drinks on a Friday but decided not to today as we had dinner last night so I’m glad I’ve managed to stay sober tonight. I think I’ll have an early night instead 😴
