Sorry for another thread.

went to dentist yesterday who thinks my root canal is failing (back molar at top). It’s agony on any pressure and constantly aching and so painful. I’ve had to take today off as I cannot work with this pain. She gave me antibiotics and said to get back in touch if I want referral for removal- I need to go to a different clinic apparently as it’s at the back and has deep roots.

didn’t sleep all night and I’m in agony. Co-codamol takes the edge off for an hour but otherwise in agony. The roof of my mouth is now swollen on that side. I’ve taken 3 of the antibiotics but shall I just ring them and ask for referral to remove it? I cannot cope with this pain- Everyone is sympathetic but they don’t understand how painful it is. Honestly if I had a gun I’d shoot myself!! What shall I do?!

I had the same thing and had it removed. It was right at the back so can't see when I smile. I had nothing but trouble with it from the day it was done and my (male) dentist always put the pain down to "hormones" whatever the fuck that means.
Personally, I think it was down to not being done properly in the first place and infection.

Thanks @joose i think I just need it out. I’ve rung my dentist and asked for a referral as an urgent case (I think being in floods of tears in the phone may have helped…) so I’m hoping it won’t be too long a wait. I just can’t do anything I can’t shower get dressed parent the kids do anything I’m crippled by pain. I can see how people overdose as I want to just take painkillers.

I got mine removed in a similar situation,

It just hurt too much.

I found alternating co-codamol with ibuprofen helped.

You can get numbing gels for the gums around it as well which help.

Orajel is excellent!

Thanks guys I’ve been taking co-codamol/ibuprofen every 2 hours and orajel +++ (probably too much) bht the relief is fairly temporary. Last night I’d used my full quota of painkillers so was in agony in the night which was awful and couldn’t really take anything else so trying to space them a bit wider today so I can take something if I can’t sleep in the night.

see if you can go to a private dentist. You can probably find one today who would take it out for you today rather than waiting
for a referral . Privately, tooth extraction isn't too expensive.
