Post vasectomy analysis still showing sperm - what happens now

DH had a vasectomy back in August and handed his first sample about 3 weeks ago. Well after the initial 12 weeks period but he had trouble getting an appointment to hand it in then it was cancelled because of the red weather warning we had here.

We’ve been taking precautions since the procedure but kind of assumed that since it’s been so long since it was done that the analysis would come back clear. Yesterday he got a letter saying he needs to produce another sample and it needs to be handed it in within an hour.

Has anyone had a second analysis come back still showing sperm? What happens then, I’m assuming that at that point the procedure needs to be repeated?

Just to add to the stress, on a good day we would struggle to get to the hospital within an hour but with roadworks that have been on the road for 6 months and show no sign of moving anytime soon it’s impossible so we’ll need to get him booked in to produce the sample at the hospital or book a travel lodge nearby for the sole purpose 🤦‍♀️

Somethimes it can take several months for a clear sample. I don't think they'll try a resterilisation for quite some time!

I don’t think they’ll have him on the table again within a matter of weeks but I can’t find anything, either in the letter we’ve been sent now or before his procedure or on line that tells me what happens if there’s still sperm in the second sample. Which is why I posted here, chances are someone’s had it happen to them.
