Norovirus hit my house so no sleep for me tonight

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/03/2025 00:43

Both DC were struck down with norovirus tonight. I've spent the last 4 hours comforting and cleaning. My house smells of disinfectant, my hands are raw, I've put a boil wash on, and now I've realised I've had no dinner, I've put a spud on.

There is no point to this thread. I'm just trying to stay awake. But if anyone has any words of wisdom I'd be glad of them. Thanks

if kids are being sick, get them to sit on the toilet and vomit into a bowl. Then if they shit with the force of it, all is good…….

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/03/2025 01:09

Ta @Heelworkhero.

Any info in how long it lasts and anything else that helps?

Oh bless you, hope the dcs feel better ASAP

I second the pp comment re sitting on the toilet. My bladder is so weak, if I vomit, I'm peeing.

Dd, 5 with autism, had a nap at 6 today so is up. Should go down in an hour fingers crossed plus she will be able to nap at her sen school

Cant offer any advice though, op, just m6 solidarity at still being awake xx

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/03/2025 02:16

Cheers @mumofoneAlonebutokay.

DS2 has come out of my bed and down the stairs. Sipped some water and puked all over the floor. He's now asleep on the sofa.

DS1 phoned me for some water. He alertnated between thanks, apologies and needing reassurance when I brought it up. He has ASD. I've promised him he's not going to die and told him the plan should the situation worsen.

I'm watching Graham Norton Show and cleaning.

We had this last week , my 6 year old was vomiting for 6 hours and then randomly once a few days later and my 1 year old was vomiting for 10 hours and then once a day for 4 days after 😭. Hopefully it won't be too much longer for you !

Dogaredabomb · 04/03/2025 02:24

I had the most awful norovirus last year. Glued to the loo with a bucket. The worst is when you're chundering fresh air.

HappyAsASandboy · 04/03/2025 02:30

We had it last week. Each of us had slightly different symptoms, but in general the vomiting lasted 12 hours or so, the diarrhoea 3 days and the aches and pains about 3 days too.

It was one of the worst bugs we'd had in a while. All just wanted to stay in bed for days on end, except the four year old who was pinging off the walls!

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/03/2025 02:55

Aw shit. I was hoping it would have disappeared completely by Wednesday. It's a big week chez Boots. Or it was supposed to be.🙄

Sorry yis all had such a bad time with this.Brew

Contagious for 48 hours after the last bout…

That takes you to the early hours Thursday
IF they stop tonight

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 04/03/2025 03:00

Feeling your pain right now. My 7yr old has been up vomiting on and off since midnight. Other 2 (5 and 2) still sleeping.

louisl8 · 04/03/2025 04:57

Urrghh my dd and me had that not long ago, I was around 30 weeks pregnant at the time, I woke up in the middle of the night and projectile vomited... was awful!

Lasted around 3 days, spent mostly in bed Confused

louisl8 · 04/03/2025 04:59

Weirdly though i mostly vomited with a little diarrhoea & DD was more diarrhoea, vomiting for me lasted two days, for DD the same Daffodil get well soon!

NormasArse · 04/03/2025 05:00

I didn’t eat for four days, and had pain between my ribs. It’s really horrible! I hope you don’t get it too, OP.

hobnobs4life · 04/03/2025 05:23

Its the absolute pits. We all had it, it is horribly contagious. My DD brought it home, she threw up for a few hours then bounced right back. When it got to us it lasted about 24 hours each. Of course we had it at the same time while alternating care of a toddler (thank every lord/deity for Netflix). Unfortunately she bored of Netflix eventually and stole her Dad's barf bucket while cackling maniacally. He got up to look for it, puked everywhere, slipped in the vomit and knocked himself unconcious on a tiled floor. 0/10 experience. Do not recommend.

I did eventually find some leftover Zofran from my pregnancy which I took and it really helped. I currenty guard that stash with my life and take it on holiday just in case this happens again. I hope by some miracle that you don't get it.

CalicoPusscat · 04/03/2025 07:05

@TooBigForMyBoots how are you feeling today?

Even if they've stopped vomiting, they can't be out and about at school tomorrow.

Labraradabrador · 04/03/2025 07:43

Just been through it and less than 24 hours for everyone. A miserable 24 hours, but then back to normal. I imagine by lunchtime the kids will be past vomiting and by dinner might be ready for a bite of toast. Start planning for what you need when you get sick in a day or two, though…

The worst was the dehydration- small sips immediately after they’ve vomited seemed to stay down best. I was really happy to have watermelon on hand when I was ready to try food again - that and some plain bread/crackers.

Dogaredabomb · 04/03/2025 10:16

Ah, maybe stugeron the travel sickness tablets might work?

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/03/2025 12:27

Thanks to everyone.

I'm tired after a shitty broken sleep on the sofa. DS2 has stopped, he's asleep now and feeling better. DS1 is still expulsive.
