Do I need to worry about heart palpitations during sex (TMI)?

Every time I orgasm, for years, my heart feels like it flutters a bit. It usually lasts less than 1 or 2 seconds if that, but I’ve noticed it for years - since my early 20s.

I get flutters if stressed, angry, scared, sometimes after very intense exercise so I’m guessing it’s adrenaline but not sure. Sometimes they happen for no reason at all.

I’m in my thirties now … have had a lot of cardiac tests done over the years - two echos, 3 or 4 holter tapes, a stress test back in 2018 … all normal.

Do have a bit of a family hx of weird heart stuff but I’ve been screened many times and told I’m fine. Told they can’t be more certain without doing a cardiac MRI but never had that.

Do I need to be worrying? I haven’t been to the GP about it in ages - my last tests were back in Autumn 2023 and totally normal.

Can also be electrolyte imbalance.

If it has a very brief flutter and then goes back to normal straight away then I wouldn't worry about it. If it continues for several hours afterwards then it's worth monitoring.

It sounds like you've had all the tests - I have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation - if it continues for over ten hours I take myself into A&E, usually via 111 as that way they expect me. I occasionally get a very short episode and I don't bother about those at all.
