What time is a lie in on the weekend

I mean typically a Sunday for me is my lazy day. Nothing particular planned. I can't sleep past 8:30 and like to get up and potter about before the kids get up. What time is a lie in for you?

While I may not lie in I love a lazy pj slow morning before my shower ! Bliss!

I get up at 5 all week so anything past that is good. Sometimes it’s 7, sometimes it’s 11. Sometimes I get up and get myself breakfast to eat in bed and go back to sleep just because it’s cosy.
I don’t have young children!

HorrorFan81 · 02/03/2025 20:51

Between 9 and 10 is my prefered time to wake up if I don't set an alarm. I've been known to sleep till 11+ though

Mushroo · 02/03/2025 20:52

Before kids post 10am was a good lie in.

Now I'll take anything after 8am!

Ineffable23 · 02/03/2025 20:52

I feel like I have had a lie in if I sleep til 8 or nearly 8. If I sleep beyond 8, that's noteworthy. I can't remember the last time it happened.

Elisabeth3468 · 02/03/2025 20:53

A lie in for me would be anything after 730 🤣 I have a toddler and a newborn though. Pre kids I'd class a lie in between 10 and 11

EmpressaurusKitty · 02/03/2025 20:56

All relative. I get up at 5 or 6am on weekdays to go to the gym or do other stuff before work (no kids so it’s purely through choice), so anything later feels luxurious.

My cat expects her morning cuddles & breakfast by 7 at the latest so I’ll sometimes feed her & return to bed with a coffee.

BendingSpoons · 02/03/2025 21:07

Similar to others - If I can stay asleep until almost 8/past 8, I class that as a win! Prior to DC, it would be 10/10.30. It's much better for me now that I'm not shifting my body clock very much. Monday mornings are not as awful compared to when I was getting up more than 3 hours earlier than Sunday.

name1234noidea · 02/03/2025 21:13

I'm waiting for the "I never sleep later than 7.30am because otherwise I feel physically sick and like a disgusting slob..."

These threads always attract the competitive morning people.

Just being nosy, when do you go to sleep? Or how much sleep do you average per night?

8 for me, although I often wake at 630 and go back to sleep.

JaninaDuszejko · 02/03/2025 21:28

I swim before work so get up early during the week. At the weekend I tend to naturally wake sometime between 5 and 6 and then read till 6.30ish. I am a morning person and like having the house to myself to potter before the teenagers and DH gets up. I go to bed about 10pm every night.

DH is a nightowl, rarely goes to bed before midnight and will sleep till middayat the weekend (that's mainly because he doesn't get enough sleep during the week).

Ddakji · 02/03/2025 21:31

Weekdays is usually 6.30. I probably sleep till 7/7.30 depending on how much wine has been taken, but usually get up by around 8, id end up with awful backache otherwise.

Back in the day, of course, it could be 10 or 11. DH has always been quite an early bird though.

Blondebrownorred · 02/03/2025 21:31

I very occasionally sleep until 7.30am on a weekend day but am usually awake before 7. I just can't sleep any later no matter how hard I try.

This is me too. I do quite like getting up early though.

Sallysoup · 02/03/2025 21:34

I used to be able to sleep in but now half 8 feels like a good lie in vs 6am on weekdays. I'll get back in bed with a coffee till 9/9.30 if I'm not busy.

Cheepcheepcheep · 02/03/2025 21:35

I haven’t woken up after 6am for four years. Two small children, no-one willing to have them overnight, and even when DH takes them downstairs the fact they’ve woken means I’m awake. Feeling a bit broken…

autisticbookworm · 02/03/2025 22:10

830-930

I take you don't have teenagers yet?!
Mine are so I have reclaimed my lie-ins! Although dd wanted to see a sunrise this morning so we were up at 5:30 and sat on a bench on the coastal path by 6:40 to watch the golden orb rise above the sea... followed by a forty min walk back to the car and on to a greasy spoon for a full English.

ExtraDecluttering · 02/03/2025 22:58

I get up by 8 on Saturdays for Parkrun and before I started doing that I had years of getting up at similar times for the DCs sports, so Sunday is my proper lie-in day (get up at 7 on weekdays).

Usually wake by 6.30-7, if I’m not going anywhere I can easily lie in bed reading till 9, normally it’s by 8 as someone has to feed the cats and I’m usually the only one awake. If I’m not going anywhere I might take a cup of tea back to bed and carry on reading otherwise I like pottering around downstairs while DH and the teens are still asleep. I’ve never been able to sleep beyond about 8 and even that’s fairly rare.

MuggleMe · 02/03/2025 23:06

It's 9 here. The kids are old enough to make their own breakfast and put the TV on so we sleep in. Usually TV off by 8.30 but sometimes 9.

ScarletWitchM · 02/03/2025 23:09

Usually I do more stuff on Saturdays so get up around 10/10:30 on Sundays it’s much more lazy - Last Sunday I got up at 2pm, today at 11:30. My kids are teens and adults now so they also lie in or get up and sort themselves out

Oxgodby · 02/03/2025 23:09

I didn’t get out of bed till past 11 today. My 12 year old brought me coffee. It was great.

Bluh · 02/03/2025 23:09

I set an alarm for 10ish. And my daughter brings me coffee

roselilylavender · 02/03/2025 23:23

As a child, we were allowed to watch TV until 9am on a Saturday and so I have always had that in my head as the official time of a lie in. Anything earlier than that at the weekend I begrudge. Anything beyond that feels indulgent! I'm often awake but just in bed reading.
I may well have gone downstairs to make a cup of tea and feed the cat before returning to bed. What I love is waking up at the usual time (between 5.45 & 6.30), reading for a while, getting a cup of tea, reading again and then choosing to have a bit of a doze for a while.

I’m usually asleep by 10 on weeknights, although obviously the 5 / 6am thing doesn’t happen if I’ve been out the night before.

Caspianberg · 03/03/2025 06:03

8am

I’m up by 6am weekdays, and Ds still wakes by 6-6.30am weekends. So even the 8am is usually me woken at 6am, Ds faffing around in our bed until 7am, and then if dh says he will take Ds downstairs to let me rest. I’m already away an hour.. so it’s 7-8am tea in bed and read
