Warning gross pic! What is this that was in my pasta sauce?

Just poured out a newly bought tomato pasta sauce from Asda and this flopped out (apologies if pic takes a minute to be verified by MN). It’s like an omelette type texture I think. Any thoughts on what it might be. Going to write to Asda in case it’s a recall job but 🤢 🤢 I think I’ve been put right off my dinner!

Ugh it looks like a mini brain 🤢

It's a dehydrated tomato

What type of tomato sauce? Jarred, fresh, something with cheese or herbs?

Bayleaf, sundried tomato?

Jarred tomato and garlic. I wonder if @TomatoSandwiches might be right. If it’s a dehydrated tomato I’m quite relieved 😂 I was thinking it might be some sort of alien life form!

Did you taste it?

Eww no 🤢 to be honest I was a bit worried it might be something inedible or potentially harmful.

@Igotjelly it's definitely some vegetable, you can see the vein running through it, typically some sort of unripe vegetable that accidentally got processed but unripe ones are a bit tougher and some come out "solid" nothing that would harm you.

You should let Asda know in case it's an allergy risk to some

Was the seal on the jar definitely intact.
Looks like a mould skin to me.

Yeh I’m sure it was, it “popped” when I opened it but it does look somewhat mould like.

I’ll definitely let Asda know in case it’s harmful to others (e.g. allergy sufferers).
