French surgeon admits to 299 victims over more than 25 years. You'll have to read the whole article but it seems that many of the people abused were under anaesthesia or recovering from surgery when it happened.

Apologies if there has been previous threads about this. I did search Mumsnet before posting but surely - can it get any worse than this?

He was a surgeon. It happened in hospitals.

I'm bumping this because I formulated my post badly. I should have put the link at the end. I don't think many people have heard of the case in the UK and although it's wrong to give comparisons when it comes to such terrible things, my first thought was, "I never thought it could get worse than..."

But here we are.

I'm in France. I had no idea. DH said he knew but couldn't bring himself to read about it.

It's on TV a lot (we just don't have a TV).

Oh thankyou. I've double threaded myself and I think the main debate is on AIBU now. I live in Corsica and don't have a TV either. It just filtered through to me somehow.

So in 2005 the FBI let French authorities know this absolutely bastard was accessing abusive images online, and nothing was done. Then later a colleague raised further concerns and still he wasn't considered a threat. And how the hell did he get away with it when some of his patients were under anaesthesia, surely there were other staff members around?
Absolutely revolting individual. Him and his ilk should be used for drug testing/ medical trials, it's all they are good for.

Where were the other staff members? Good question, isn't it?
