Will my one year old be okay with a blanket in her cot over night?

Hi,

My DD has never been a big sleeping bag fan. I've tried various different ones and she gets restless in them particularly as she's getting older.

Previously I've had the heating on most nights due to her not wearing a sleeping bag and it's been fine but the weather isn't as cold as it was a few weeks ago so when I do put the heating on eventually it's getting a bit too hot (and is costing a fortune).

Would it be okay to have a blanket in the cot now that she's 15 months old? I've got a blanket that has holes in it (I think it's called a cellular blanket?) would that be the best option?

Thanks

I think at 15 months she'll be fine with a proper blanket or cot quilt

A blanket is fine. Sleeping bags for babies a relatively modern thing,

She can have a quilt or low tog duvet at that age

Yes, she can have blankets or a light duvet.

Mine went from sleeping bags to normal duvets

If you are worried just don't tuck the blankets in too tightly. Your one year old should be able to kick them off if they get hot.

Thank you everyone.

I've given her a blanket, hopefully she'll be fine (anxious mum)

What tog duvet do you have on currently? My 15month baby would have frozen to death with no heating and one cellullar blanket on. Buy a duvet or at least put a cardigan/jumper and socks on little one.

And one’s body temperature drops at night when asleep as well.

I was also an anxious mother and I now think that a lot of issues around older babies not sleeping well is because they’re cold! However from one year, even I didn’t worry about my children overheating because they can move blankets etc off if they get hot, unlike a baby who doesn’t have that strength.

Yes, blanket is fine

Mine went in a single bed with a duvet as soon as they turned 2, so knowing they can cope with a blanket now is a good thing .
