I had a sore throat for a couple of weeks but tbh it was awful i thought it would go on its own. I had an episode last weekend where i suddenly felt faint so i went to out of hours gp - i was there ages because my heart was racing but in the end got prescribed antibiotics. I started them 6 days ago have 4 days left. I was feeling in much less pain my throat was less red etc until today. I had to go for a ct scan with the dye today (unrelated to my throat) and ive felt awful all day. The pain is back swallowing and its bright red again.

i have had quinsy before but i dont aee any swelling particularly its just bright red and hurts.

i am at the point of wondering if message
message gp again but im not sure if i just need to take the last 4 days and stick it out.

is it normal to have symptoms come back after 6 days of antibitoics?

im feeling very sorry for myself - they had s hard time putting he iv drip in for the dye so my hand has swollen up a bit and my throat hurts - im pretty sure im a right sight at the moment!!

Can you get one those numbing sprays, Chloraseptic I think it’s called?
They’re really fast acting.

i thought it was only bacterial if there were white spots? i had a severe case of bacterial tonsilitis in december that required 3 rounds of antibiotics to clear it fully. my tonsils were covered in white pus

Are the antibiotics strong enough and what type are they? Twice when this happened to me and the dose wasn't strong enough, I had to be hospitalised for IV antibiotics.

Ring your GP for a phone consultation? Usually when I've had antibiotics for a sore throat it clears up after 2 days. If you have been on them 6 days then I'd guess either they aren't right/strong enough or it's viral and antibiotics won't help. You really your doctor's input here, not randoms on the internet.

Hope you feel better soon!

I had the most horrific sore throat just before Christmas, I honestly wanted to cry it was that painful. The only thing that really helped was gargling with salt water, as hot as I could bear it, every hour on the hour during the day. After about 48 hours it was pretty much gone. I hope you feel better soon OP 💐

This is where we were with my adult child a week ago. Three days of ABs and it was getting worse not better, throat so constricted that talking and swallowing were very difficult. GP sent them to A&E and they were given IV antibiotics along with a steroid treatment, with two different types of ABs on prescription to take at home. Diagnosis was glandular fever plus tonsillitis but I'm pleased to say after a week of sleeping pretty much there is great improvement. You may need to go back?
