Do new car dealers add on price

I was quoted a price on new car and told would cost x to change with trade in.
agreed waiting to sign finance.
the documents are confusing but seems the have added another £700 in extras like transportation, ved , administration fees. Surely they should tell you this first before you agree as the price, or am I the ignorant party here? it’s a car they have in the showroom. I have not bought a car over a decade so pretty rusty!

The price on the car is the one you should be paying. They absolutely should not be adding any “extra” charges on. I would advise ringing them up immediately for an explanation. Totally unscrupulous, and underhand, and remember you do have a fourteen day cooling off period so legally you are entitled to cancel the purchase. £700.00 is not loose change, how can they believe they are justified in these charges, is beyond me.

Yes will ask them today. I haven’t signed so can walk away anyway. Was just checking as on line it seems mixed info. I just assumed the cost to change cars is the one I would be paying. Would they not mention hundreds in extras. Still annoyed you don’t even get car mats which you have to buy for £150. So that with extra charged is nearly another 1000!

The bottom line is the cost to change, how that is arrived at is less important. Dealers may inflate a trade in to give an impression you are getting a better deal. Remember its the cost to change.

The cost to change was quoted the price I agreed. However the paperwork says customer balance nearly 700 after all theses add on charges. I’m hoping I just don’t understand the paperwork! Because the price to change is supposed to include first year tax VED. It’s a new car. Will call them after 9! Thanks
