Home-made "moist toilet paper"

MiniFig · 27/02/2025 12:51

I don't actually want to make it in advance, but you used to be able to get a spray (Fresh Ex i think) to spray on regular toilet paper that made it work like moist toilet paper.

I don't want to buy the commercial toilet paper because of the environment, but i can't find a spray anywhere. Someone once told me that you can make it yourself, but i can't find anything at all anywhere.

Anyone got a clue? (and is there a better "topic" to put this in?)

You can use a gel like Wype.

SlaveToAGoldenRetriever · 27/02/2025 13:09

Just buy the Andrex wipes. Life’s too short to worry about shit like this, pardon the pun.

24Dogcuddler · 27/02/2025 13:19

It’s Fresh X readily available on Amazon. Difficult to obtain during Festival season.

We just keep a little spray bottle beside the toilet, with water and some baby oil in it. Works fine for us.

MiniFig · 27/02/2025 13:34

what sort of proportion do you use?

We have been getting our toilet paper on subscription from Bazoo for a while and they have started doing an eco friendly gel with a pump. I just got a trial pack of the gel and have found it really good.

You can get £10 off your first toilet paper order with this link: www.wearebazoo.com/ANNETTE13794 (I think you need to get a 48 pack).

Vaseline do a spray lotion that works well. Any kind of cheap lotion would work

ChaoticCrumble · 27/02/2025 13:49

Wype is good - get it from Amazon

AwkwardSquad · 27/02/2025 13:58

Look up suppliers of incontinence products. They should have several options, including gel and foam dispensers.

LindorDoubleChoc · 27/02/2025 14:04

Use Aloe Vera gel (I get it from Superdrug) on toilet paper for the final wipe.

Doitrightnow · 27/02/2025 14:04

Not the same, but I use cotton reusable wipes and wet them with water just before use. Then store them in a small wet bag hanging from the toilet roll holder. I put them on a rinse wash then 60 degree cotton wash with towels etc. I feel much cleaner than when using toilet paper and easier on piles. Maybe it is worth considering?

MyCatNamedCookingFat · 27/02/2025 14:04

I used to have a baby wipe solution made of chamomile tea. Same would work ?

aniloD · 27/02/2025 14:08

I keep a pump action cheap moisturising lotion next to the loo. E45 lotion or Neutrogena are my favourite fagrance free ones. Small amount on the paper and you're away. Much cheaper than buying specific products and works just as well. A smaller bottle in your handbag for when you are out and about.

Namechangergamechanger101 · 27/02/2025 14:11

I just buy these

SingingSands · 27/02/2025 14:41

You can use a squirt of baby lotion on your regular loo roll - gentle and a bottle will last for ages.

You're absolutely right not to use "flushable" wipes. My dad used to work for a water company and see the problems caused by these! They should all be banned.

MiniFig · 27/02/2025 15:46

Thanks all - I'll try lotion and see how it goes.

I may try the loo roll if I can get it here. I made the mistake of ordering from Who Gives A Crap. Awful stuff, so it does rather put me off ordering 40 rolls!

The spray is likely 99% water! Buy commercial saline from a pharmacy or just use water and with a tiny amount of salt dissolved in it.

This is what I use. Aloe a little expensive to buy, but you need the smallest amount and a tube lasts for ages. Kind to your bum!

3 parts water to 1 part witch hazel is absolutely fabulous, especially if you live in a hot climate.

It keeps things very fresh and clean. I specifically use after pooping and I avoid the vaginal opening, but it can be used around the vulva if you would like.

I have a handheld bidet or "bum gun" here in Thailand, but I still use the witch hazel concoction as it really does keep things extra fresh.

I spray the mixture on the toilet paper rather than on my body directly, just so I can ensure it goes where I want it to.
I just got a spray bottle from the supermarket. Any work fine.

It doesn't dry my skin out at all, I've had no issues, but I have a friend who uses a bit of lotion as a last step like PP.

Personally I find that makes the area not dry as well as I would like and leaves me feeling a bit uncomfortable.

MiniFig · 27/02/2025 13:34

Well it’s an old VO5 hair styler bottle. I just fill it up and add a squirt of baby oil, then shake to mix it in. It’s a nice misty spray, which I’d why I’ve held into it. But it’s probably 99% water tbh.

MiniFig · 28/02/2025 13:25

thanks all!

You can get aqueous cream cheaply and use that on toilet paper. My daughter had a skin issue in that area and the hospital recommended it

SlipperyLizard · 28/02/2025 14:13

I use this recipe as I’m too tight to pay for Wype: https://byjilleeshop.com/blogs/jillees-take/homemade-bum-spray?srsltid=AfmBOopiOTuq3RCbtIfM1dBh7MfFOm0QveEFrV74AZGXVS_LxyLUy28c

One batch lasts for ages.
