Work for Tesco and bored enough to answer a trivial question about online shopping?

Me and my sister live 20 miles apart. We both shop at Tesco. Our shopping comes from the same store.

So why does she have lots of stuff coming up in the app that doesn't appear in mine and vice versa?

Same app. Same store it's coming from.

Maybe it's algorithms?
Maybe your sister orders more things and/ or different items from what you do and the algorithms suggest different products?
Algorithms analyze your past purchases and your browsing preferences and they show you more things.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 25/02/2025 22:32

Oh yes that certainly makes sense but I can't find products I search for.
Eg she'll have a pack of double chocolate mini muffins in the app and I'll type in double chocolate mini muffins into my app and there will be no results.

I'd understand it if it was different stores but it's the same store.

I'm going to need to ask tesco because it's bugging me.

They're going to think I'm bonkers 🤣

I know why today, a Tuesday, Tesco knows it won’t have let’s say onions for my delivery in Friday but I can’t answer your question.

The reason they know stuff is unavailable in advance is they take a percentage of their stock for in store and another for online. So they know today that they won’t have any onions if I add them to my already checked out order tonight.

Maybe she bought the last ones 😂

Maybe they are judgey and think you don't need chocolate muffins??

Kpo58 · 25/02/2025 23:26

How do you know that your items are coming from the same store? I've had items come from a similar sized store that is further away, even though I have a closer store that also does deliveries.

CallMeFlo · 25/02/2025 23:38

I'd be surprised if 2 people 20 miles away are getting things from the same store.
My Mum & I live in the same village and shopping comes from 2 different stores.

DazedAndConfused321 · 25/02/2025 23:40

How do you know it's coming from the same store?

Is this a food delivery app like uber eats?

I thought this. I'm 10 minutes from a large Tesco but my shopping actually comes from one that's further away.

Blubbles · 26/02/2025 10:11

Agreed that it's probably not the same store.

DonnyDoris · 26/02/2025 10:44

I used to work for Tesco. If you look on your bank statement it will usually say Tesco {place name} or have a 4 digit code next to it. This is the store name / code that the shopping was picked from and therefore where you were charged. If your's and sisters are different, then it's different stores, so would answer the question. If they're the same, then I've no idea - sorry!!

Snorlaxo · 26/02/2025 10:47

Do you check at the same time ? Things come and go out of stock as deliveries arrive and people buy food.
Are you deliveries at the same time ? Sometimes stuff from the bakery is only available after 1pm (?) on my app.
I have my shopping delivered at 10am and the shopper has done the shopping by 7am and the shelves are well stocked because night shift will have replenished overnight.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 26/02/2025 15:59

It's tesco grocery app and yes it comes from the same store. I'm about 10 miles one side of it and she's the same the other.

We are planning a little birthday tea for our mum and we're sat here in my house together. She was suggesting some bits but I couldn't find them on my tesco app. So she went on hers and found the items. Read out the exact name. I typed that into my app and nothing.

I'm glad you took that as intended @Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast

I'm going round my parents tomorrow and we live a street apart- I will see if we can order the same things.

colourblindrainbow · 26/02/2025 19:31

I’m going to call my son and ask him if he knows, he works for Tesco food delivery. Will update with answer when I’ve spoken to him!

colourblindrainbow · 26/02/2025 19:33

He said they definitely must be different stores 😆

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 26/02/2025 19:35

Dh and I had different options on the Waitrose app last week. He asked me to order nachos but they weren’t showing for me but were for him.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 26/02/2025 19:37

They are definitely not different stores.

My sisters husband does click and collect.
We have ours delivered.
It's the same store. I know this because my husband is a chatty bugger and natters away with the delivery drivers. Ours comes from the same store my bil collects their shopping from.

OP posts:
Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 26/02/2025 19:40

Unless the issue is they do click and collect and I do home delivery.

OP posts:
FlyingFlamingo · 26/02/2025 19:41

There are often issues with the app, I have raised this with them before and they couldn’t really help…eg I haven’t been able to see satsumas on the app for months but when I’ve been into the shop they were right there! And for weeks I wasn’t able to see any fresh bread even though there was plenty in the actual shop Confused

mindutopia · 26/02/2025 20:04

Delivery dates change what’s in stock.

Also you may think they come from the same store, but my click and collect store is the one 20 minutes west in a different county. My delivery comes from a Tesco an hour away. There are two other Tesco stores closer. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 26/02/2025 20:15

We were side by side on my sofa putting stuff in our baskets at the same time, having not booked slots.

I've messaged Tesco to confirm I'm right in the store my shopping comes from.

They're going to think I'm fucking nuts.

OP posts:
TY78910 · 26/02/2025 20:31

Are you actually sure it comes from the store?

I shop at Asda and I'm pretty sure that even though I have a 'home store' set on my app, the shopping actually gets delivered from a warehouse.

Unless I select click and collect, where the staff actually pick it in the store.

Could be that your shopping comes from different warehouses
