Would you stay at a White Lotus Hotel?

I'm currently watching the current series, set in Thailand, and the locations of all 3 seasons are just so beautiful and luxurious.

But the guests? They put me right off. 😆

I watched season 3, episode 1 of WL. I loved the other 2 seasons but I thought the new one was a bit shit 😝

As far as I know, they’re Four Seasons resorts, and I’ve stayed in one in Mexico. It was beautiful and I had a lovely time, but the other guests were total entitled nobs, and I felt weird the whole time I was there, as if I was in some kind of artificial environment.

The White Lotus shows have totally put me off ever returning to one, as they confirmed what I suspected the staff thought of us!

Haha we stayed in somewhere similar for our first week of 4 weeks in Thailand! And I couldn’t cope with the other guests and the whole vibe really i- just wasn’t for us ! We slummed it the rest of the 3 weeks (when I say slummed it - we were still in nice bungalows just off the beach with nice pools! But not resorts. Not for us at all.

Yes, they are all real resorts. I would go if I had anything like the £££ needed

I loved the one in Italy. The others not so much.

This new series is quite boring imo. I miss Jennifer Coolidge.

TurtleBarnacle · 24/02/2025 21:28

Sounds like my feelings about the guests are pretty spot on!

I've stayed in some beautiful places, including various resorts and islands in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. It's definitely possible to find cheaper places to stay that are still lovely.

And @LunaNorth I always wondered about the staff too, and tried to be nice to them. Although having watched episode 2 today it looks like guests being nice and chatty is also very annoying! 😆

I agree that the second series is the best so far.

Episode 2 of series 3 was better than episode 1 though... we will see.

I just couldn’t get past the fact they were working long hours on probably shit wages while we all swanned around with our breakfast daiquiris, sprinkling bee pollen on our granola.

You can take the girl out of the council estate, I guess…

That said, council estate or not, I behaved with better manners than the arsehole tech bros, bitter-faced golf widows and cigar-wafting, beach-polluting patriarchs that we had to put up with. That programme isn’t all that much of an exaggeration.

The one in Taormina is gorgeous - absolutely ridiculous prices nowadays though.

Megapint · 24/02/2025 22:01

I'd rather go to Benidorm. The guests and staff seem much more fun.

Oblomov25 · 24/02/2025 22:10

God no, most die!

Or have other unpleasant things happen to them!

Not been to the ones in the show, but others like them.

Especially a very upmarket one in the Maldives, when we arrived on the dock (by seaplane!) 7 members of staff were waiting waving just like the series, having not long watched the first series on the plane I had to try very hard not to giggle.

Dear god some people were insufferable..... the evening happy hour for guests above a certain level of membership tier, was quite an eye opener. We would get there early for the tables of 2 so no-one would join us. The conversations were quite embarrassing, sure the staff had heard it all before. But I could not get over the clicking of fingers and waving of hands at the staff, shocking.

Plenty places filmed in Ko Samui I have been to (stayed at Tongsi many moons ago), all changed now by all accounts and just not as nice.

Yes went on honeymoon to the FS Maui resort which was featured in the first series. It was really nice and the guests were normal. Lots of families.
