Does this chest infection need more antibiotics? I don’t know what to do

Became unwell last Monday and by Thursday went to the GP where I was diagnosed with a chest infection and given amoxicillin.

Today is the last day of the course but my chest is still very crackly and creaky and I’m still coughing a lot, it sounds really wet and chesty. I feel a bit better in myself and not so much like I’m drowning in mucus like I was but im still very lethargic and headachey.

is this normal congestion after a chest infection or should all crackles / wheezing be gone now? I don’t know whether to make a return trip to GP today or wait it out.

You need to see your GP again if it’s not cleared up.

See GP immediately.

In my personal experience (I get a lot of chest infections), it’s normal for the cough and the wheeze to carry on for several weeks. The important bit is that you don’t have a fever, feel like you can’t get out of bed, or have other new symptoms. I personally would ride it out for a few days and see how you feel if all else is okay.

You need to be medically assessed. You may need another course of antibiotics.
