Anti-Microsoft rant: It's my desktop, can't they leave it alone?

I had a nice peaceful piccie I had taken of a sunset between trees. I had it for ages, through various updates, but this time, no. It had transmogrified into one of their swirly patterns.
And when I went to put one of my own in, it wouldn't steer to my recorded files on a remotely accessed device, labelled Public. So File Explorer wouldn't go as it used to Network. I've had to spend ages fooling it via recently opened files - thank goodness it had kept them available to get back to.
It's my computer, my organisation of my files, I've got to spend the afternoon reorganising the way I want it. Updates are supposed to prevent bad actors getting in and mucking it up, not enable some nerd in Seattle impose his fancy on it.
So far I've only been able to find a piccie someone else took of the Faroes. I want my own.
Now to File Explorer.....

this last update was awful. my photo also disappeared so need to change that back.

the printer went offline and now it can't find it on the network.

Great. I'm not on the computer I print from, so I will avoid updating that. I now have a photo of some lava shapes by Godafoss in Iceland, as the express my feelings. Maybe this thread will warn others. I haven't been able to get the side window which is supposed to show This Pc, and Network to actually do that the way it was. I've managed to get a shortcut to Public, which is all my files on my wifi storage on to the desktop, but I don't really want it there. Too obvious. It's apparently reading my plug-in drives OK.
I have a washing machine. It does not need to be reprogrammed every so often. My oven, my microwave, my remoska do not have to be plugged in to some nerd somewhere who thinks he knows what they should be doing. My DAB radio does, and similarly drives me mad.
I'm glad it's not just me, but they should just leave it alone once purchased.

This is one of the reasons I switched to a Mac 10 years ago.
Starts up quickly, not waiting around for 5 to 10 minutes whilst MS "does its thing". No weird behaviour, pauses or glitches.
Updates or upgrades do not interfere with my personal settings.
