I seem to have become ths unofficial quiz master in our house!

I'm looking for questions along the lines of (in English) :

What are the only 6 countries whose names have only 1 syllable?

Which countries contain the vowels in the correct order?

Which is the only country that can be typed using just the letters on one line of a qwerty keyboard?

Please help!

Happy to post answers to above if anyone is interested!

There are three US states with just four letters in their name: can you name them?

GhentBruges · 23/02/2025 13:22

On the London Tube network, which is the only station to begin with the letter 'I'?

Randomer75 · 23/02/2025 13:24

Which two European capitals are named after an animal?

Randomer75 · 23/02/2025 13:25

Alphabetically which is the first capital?

GhentBruges · 23/02/2025 13:26

From here:

https://www.radiotimes.com/quizzes/pub-quiz-geography/

I've got a book of geography quizzes (which is very good - recommend) but none of that type (only a quick glance)

TickingAlongNicely · 23/02/2025 13:26

Which US state is also a country? (GEORGIA)
Which country is Paris and London in? (KIRIBATI)

This is the book I recommend but not if you want questions that specific!

With only one syllable? I've got Laos and France only? What are the others?

Which borough in London has borders with the most other boroughs?

Name every country with the letters 'stan' in them?

Which country has the most male baldness?

Which country has the tallest population?

TickingAlongNicely · 23/02/2025 13:33

How about "which country used to be called" questions.

I can think of Siam, Mesopotamia, Ceylon, and Persia of the top of my head

-Show flags and people guess where they are from
-What is the smallest continent?
-Perth, Aus is closest to which city? Its closest to Singapore and Jakarta than Adelaide!
-Name countries and people need to guess the capital cities
-Name the only 2, double land locked countries? Liechtenstein and Uzbekistan
-Name countries ending in STAN.

Greece, Spain only have one syllable.

AcquadiP · 23/02/2025 13:50

What is the world's smallest city (by population and size)?

BobbyBiscuits · 23/02/2025 13:52

@caringcarer DOH!! Two countries I love and have been to a lot. Thank you!

Chad is the fifth one I think?!

Mumdiva99 · 23/02/2025 13:56

I did a quiz with a round about airport codes - they gave the code and we had to say what city and what country. Some are easy and some very hard.

You could also do similar with Station codes for the UK.

I also did a round on Motorway Service stations. - which motor way is this one on , which was the first, which is the furthest north....etc

Sporcle.com has thousands of Geography quizzes so would be an excellent source of inspiration here.

What about a map quiz where you provide a map of the world or one particular part of it with just the borders shown, no country names, and you have to identify where particular countries are?

Also, which countries border Country X? Russia and China are very good for this. So is France, because French Guiana is a departement of France so France has a border with Brazil.

UN-recognised sovereign nations with only one land border, and so on.

Four-letter world capitals.

If you rank all the sovereign nations of the world in order of population, what are the top ten? What are the bottom ten? Now do the same for land area.

Which countries border more than one ocean?

How many British Overseas Territories can you name?

What are the 10 largest islands in Scotland?

Countries the Danube flows through. Lots of major rivers could be used here, or which US states does the Mississippi flow through?

Spell Mississippi.

AcquadiP · 23/02/2025 13:50

What is the world's smallest city (by population and size)?

Vatican City, I think.

lljkk · 23/02/2025 14:00

Which 2 nations are double land locked? But that answer is geography nothing to do with spelling, maybe not what op wants

AcquadiP · 23/02/2025 14:01

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/02/2025 13:58

Vatican City, I think.

Correct!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/02/2025 14:04

AcquadiP · 23/02/2025 14:01

Correct!

Phew. Soon to be the centre of attention of the world's media if the Pope doesn't pull through. I am not a Catholic but find the Conclave weirdly fascinating, waiting for the white smoke. Must read the Robert Harris book and/or see the new film Conclave at some point.

Randomer75 · 23/02/2025 13:24

Which two European capitals are named after an animal?

Without looking them up, I'm guessing Berlin and Bern might both be named after bears.

I love that sort of thing. There are lots and lots in Africa. Zimbabwe would be a good one.

Not so much pure Geography as a mash up between Geography and History, but you could list most of the countries of Africa and ask which European country was the colonial power there until independence. (If in doubt, guess the UK.)

Toffeesgirl · 23/02/2025 14:32

Some great ideas, thanks.

You've got all 6 of the 6, well done.😀
