Thinking birthday presents. What do your 7 year old boys play with the most? Feeling a bit stuck this year.

All the Lego.

TotallyKerplunked · 22/02/2025 08:49

My DS absolutely loves his remote control car. Oh and lego, lots of lego. He's currently Mario obsessed so the above items are Mario themed. He also loves the ball and stick magnet toys.

kittyycatt · 22/02/2025 08:56

Loves building lego! Minecraft lego specifically. But doesn't play with it, it just joins the shelf of completed lego.

I'm in the same boat, my son is 7 in easter holidays but he's happy with his ipad. He has a bike and scooter, tons of jurassic dinosaurs.

Ds has given up on lego and seems to have no interest whatsoever. We got him a switch for Xmas, he has all the usual things like bikes, scooters. I would also like to get him things that he can play with his friends when they come over.

My DS is a little bit younger but he loves his gravitrax marble run. He is too young to do it quite by himself so I reckon it would really suit an older child too.

EducatingArti · 22/02/2025 09:07

Bey blades
Pokémon cards

Bakedpotatoes · 22/02/2025 09:13

Wrestlers and a wrestling cage. Lego mini figures. Basket ball hoop. Scooter. Bike. iPad.

NoseyFarkers · 22/02/2025 09:22

Ds3 is 7.

His bike and Basketball hoops (outdoor and a smaller overdoor hoop for inside).
I can't remember what they're called but he has a large 'finger skateboard' set - complete with pump tracks, bmx bikes etc that he loves.
Also still enjoys his Marble run.
Darts - a magnetic set, it's brilliant.
Mini hover helicopter thing.
Remote control cars.

He also really enjoys those 'dig out your own X' sets. He's had a few before, Dino bones, fossils etc. Currently has a bloody massive Gemstone one with 30 gems to find and he's absolutely thrilled with his collection so far.

Ohisitjustme · 22/02/2025 09:23

Magna tiles
Schleich animals

katmarie · 22/02/2025 09:33

Other than lego, my 7yo ds loves magnetic tiles, marble run, craft stuff like clay, building toys like the brio construction stuff and meccano, transformers toys, nerf guns, remote control cars. Also books, he's currently absorbed in DH's Tintin book, and likes books about dinosaurs, animals, the world, space, lots of factual stuff.

If he is into gaming, what about an experience day? There’s a Minecraft interactive experience in London around April time I think.

Also, things like laser tag or walkie talkies for when friends are over?

-3D puzzles
-Guinness book of world records
-karaoke machine
-hoodies/fav character t-shirts
-stay active level out balance board
-snake attack toy game

DS turned 7 this week. He loved - a joke kit from The Works, a swingball set for the garden, Guinness Bk of Records for kids, kids' book of mythical beasts, also still into Beast Quest books.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 22/02/2025 09:42

Also super random but depending how nerdy he is (mine is!!!) For Xmas he got from an older relative a proper OS map of Britain that we mounted on his bedroom wall and he LOVES it. I wouldn't have chosen it, but it is a genius gift -he spends all hsi bedtime looking up random towns using the coordinates.

NameChange30 · 22/02/2025 09:56

Does your son have a Yoto player? My kids love theirs. I'd recommend a Yoto mini.

For my son's 7th birthday I got him an indoor swing (a sensory, stretchy one) - he uses it all the time.
For Christmas we gave him a football goal for the garden that he uses a lot.
He enjoys Lego but tends to just make a set and then display it, he doesn't play with it as such once he's made it, and doesn't make his own creations.
I have my eye on the Gravitrax marble run for his 8th birthday as I think he'd enjoy it.
He likes jigsaw puzzles (he's good at them so he needs tricky ones!)
Board games - Ticket to Ride First Journey is good, and he likes Catan Junior too. He asked for Battleship so I've got him that for his birthday.

NameChange30 · 22/02/2025 10:38

Also, which Switch games does he have? If he doesn't already have them, I recommend Super Mario Party, MarioKart and Kirby and the Forgotten Land - I'd say those are the three my son has played and enjoyed the most.

Gjifbklb · 22/02/2025 12:17

Lots of lovely ideas. We are already getting him the Zelda switch game but were also hoping to get some actual toys.

katmarie · 23/02/2025 09:38

Just to add, board games. Ds loves junior monopoly, junior cluedo, snakes and ladders etc.

My 7 year old loves the army range of toys in Smyths. The Corps and Soldier Force ones, he plays with them every single day. He's also started playing with his Hot Wheels cars again recently.

Also the Football goal in the garden is used A LOT.

dontforgetme · 23/02/2025 09:49

Book wise he's all about Dogman and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

pearbottomjeans · 23/02/2025 09:52
