Can you help me solve this mystery?

This evening me and my DH where having a bit of a debate, we weren’t shouting but our voices were probably raised louder than normal. About 10 mins into the debate I received a text from from a number I didn’t recognise saying “Quiet, Please!” It was deleted about 2 mins later.

We are detached, didn’t have any windows open and really weren’t talking very loudly anyway. It’s definitely not from our neighbours either side - or next to them. Or from anyone across the road.

I put the number into WhatsApp and it came up with someone I used to know about 10 years ago from a sports club. I didn’t use to interactive with them, so they wouldn’t have any idea where I live. I don’t know where they live, and I’ve never seen them around here and know most of the people who live up the road (none of whom have my number).

What’s going on here? What are the chances that the one night we are a bit louder than usual I get a message at the exact time saying to be quiet. Just a coincidence? 🤔🤷‍♀️

They are living in your attic.

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 21/02/2025 01:32

They're your new milkman?

BrieHugger · 21/02/2025 01:34

I’d ask them why they messaged you. Why would they even have your number in their phone?

How did a text get deleted? I thought the sender could only do that on WhatsApp?

MattTheDug · 21/02/2025 01:37

I'd guess it wasn't meant for you, just coincidence. Could be a parent texting a teen or a nudge to a gamer? I've certainly messaged DH when he's been loud with headphones on and not realised.

👍👌

I'd assume it was a wrong number and it's coincidence that you were debating. Message and ask them if they meant to message you

changeme4this · 21/02/2025 02:01

I've googled numbers in the past and the results seemed random at best. Try again and see if you come up with other results...

It’s from the monster under your bed. Even monsters need sleep.

First post nailed it.

iPhones allow you to unsend messages.

PandaTime · 21/02/2025 03:00

Why don't you ask him/her?

falalalalaaaaaaaa · 21/02/2025 03:23

As a PP suggested, I'd bet it's a Mum telling her teenager to keep it down and for some reason she sent it to you in error. Probably just a weird coincidence you used to sort of know her. If you're super weirded out by it though, maybe text and ask whether she meant to send it to you.

Anymore clues, OP?
