I've felt absolutely mortified twice today!

Firstly, a professional my DD sees quite often told me I'd been calling her the wrong name the whole time we've met (about 6 months)
A lot of our communication outside of meetings is via email and turns out Google swaps round her name so her name is Sara Smith. But her Google email is Smith.sara@
But her name isn't English so they both sound like they could be a first name.

I've been greeting her in person saying 'Hello 2ndname. Thankyou 2nd name'

And to make it even worse I looked and the last email she send she signed off with her first name in all capitals 😣

Then my son got new shoes for school a few weeks ago.

My other son had a friend round and I didn't know. His friend had left his shoes on the rack and they are the same as my sons but much older. So I shouted to DS 'What have you done to your shoes?? You've only had them a few weeks. Look at the state of them, they're falling apart'

And they weren't his 😭😭😭

I'm absolutely praying that the lad upstairs didn't hear me. DS usually has music on so I'm pretty confident he wouldn't have but how horrible would that be? :(

I feel like a right dickhead today

You shouldn't.

If someone got my name wrong the first time I'd probably let it go, but by the second time the onus would be on me to say "Oh btw my name is X".

The kid won't care about the shoes simply because they're not new and your son's are, so why wouldn't you wonder what happened? 🤷‍♂️

Unicornsandprincesses · 20/02/2025 23:04

Neither of those seem like a big deal to me?

gmail mix up with the non English name - easy mistake to make. Mot done intentionally. Not malicious. I’m not sure why the professional didn’t correct you in the first place.

Shoes, meh….

LoveBluey · 20/02/2025 23:10

Yeah the name would be a bit embarrassing but not too bad and I'm sure the kid doesn't care in the slightest about his shoes looking old

Hozier · 20/02/2025 23:10

I felt like the kid might be ashamed of his shoes because I was shouting about what a state they were in!

The first is a lesson to always check what a person signs off their emails as and use the same to address them. The second is a non event.

Are you absolutely sure Smith is her first name? In some European countries, they tend to put the surname first on official documents, work stuff, etc, so could it be that? My French cousins all have their surname first in their FB profiles, for example.
And they also tend to put surnames in caps.

That's the whole point of the thread....

Oh op 😭 I wouldn't worry

These things aren't such a big deal

The name thing could happen to anyone, as long as you apologised

Doubt boys really care about their shoes tbh

My autistic dd, 5, is going through a phase of silent sit down protests

In lidl on Tuesday she lay down in the freezer aisle whilst I did everything to get her to move, inc pretending to leave. She just lay down giggling 🙄😭 - no idea why

The staff member was for sure judging me, then judging me harder when I walked back in shame to pick her up and carry her to the till 🙈😭😭

Don't worry at all, you're okay xx

Ah, I’m obviously being a bit slow. Apologies.

But you weren't?

You were shouting how quickly the 'new' shoes got in that state and his weren't new 🤷‍♂️
