Have you had Heck chicken sausages?

I've tried them for the first time. Is it normal for them to contain bone, or have I just been very unlucky?

" It's like being shocked there was a creature in your salad leaves"

I would certainly not expect to find bones in a sausage! Puzzled by the extreme reactions though-it's a bit of bone, not nuclear waste!

News to me. It's considered quite normal to come across a little bit of bone/gristle in meat sometimes. Fish have the odd little bone too. It's all part of learning how to eat food and develop table manners and dining skills.

I've never come across a bit of bone the size of half a fingernail in a sausage before. Gristle, sure.

The company are big donors to the Tory party-I stopped buying them when I found out. Shame-they are very good!

I didn't know that! Another good reason not to buy them again.

The aldi chicken sausages are way nicer

Snorlaxo · 19/02/2025 18:20

The plain chicken ones are so plain that I imagine fussy toddlers being their biggest customer. The Italia ones are better. Luckily never seen a bone.

MooDengsFatRolls · 19/02/2025 20:03

Just had the Italia ones, they were alright, what I'd expect from a chicken sausage. No bones, can sometimes find gristle in sausages. I take them out the cases and do Nigella's recipe with spaghetti and baby plum tomatoes 😋

verityveritas · 19/02/2025 22:18

Bone can result in a broken tooth. I found bone in some pork sausages. But I've gone right off sausages as I think lots of companies are reducing quality for quantity. See also chicken breast plumped up with water. We've cut right back on meat recently, as it's just not worth the price. Haven't eaten fish for years due to the environmental impact, of both farmed fish, and line caught (not just chemicals from farmed fish, over fishing, but also the damage caused by discarded lines and nets.

I was just coming on to say exactly this. They are much nicer and cheaper than the Heck ones.

I tried googling but didn't find anything that mentioned that. Do you have a link?

It was on the Sainsbury's groceries site under the ingredients and nutrition part for the chicken sausages.

I would imagine that it is on the packaging as well in small print.

MsSquiz · 20/02/2025 08:12

It does say this on the packaging at the bottom...

Thanks for that! I googled, but for some stupid reason, I didn't think to read the packaging... Doh!

They can't have been too careful though, given the size of what was left.

I haven't had these in a while, but did enjoy them when I did, now I'm not sure I want to try them again Confused

I bought some for a treat for ddog, cooked them, they looked vile inside and ddog turned her nose up at them.
Enough said

They must be very poor quality then- Usually a dog loves a nice meaty sossidge!

Belaymehearties · 20/02/2025 08:36

I like chicken, but these sausages are beyond bland

SidekickSylvia · 20/02/2025 08:50

My dog doesn't like them either, and he would normally attempt to do somersaults for the chance of anything chicken-y. I only bought them once.

Sillybex · 02/03/2025 21:48

Yes I have eaten them for months because they're. Low calorie so no problem until December when suddenly chunks of bone in many sausages ! I emailed them and they seemed to think this was normal sometimes and offered me some free stuff to give them a second try but I can't do it! They've definitely changed something! They're too expensive for me to risk it now

tilypu · 03/03/2025 08:11

Thanks @Sillybex I've never had bits of bone in sausages before - it feels like they are cutting corners in the production in order to save money - which imo is poor for a relatively high priced product. And surely will be counter-productive as they will lose customers.

Oh well.

We’ve never had bone but they’re bland. Dd3 doesn’t eat any pork (loves pigs and stopped pork age 4 - she’s 13 now). I now have Linda McCartney veggie ones in the freezer for dd3 and the rest of us have pork.
