My 2025 new me improvements

I have a few things I really want to work on that I think would really enhance my life. These are things that would make me feel better in myself and also have tangible benefits. So I’m hoping to use this as a way of tracking and monitoring my progress and keeping me accountable.

I’m guilty of trying to do too much too soon very often so going to limit my goals to three main ones that would mean a lot to me to achieve.

  1. reducing processed sugars from my diet. Did this four years ago and had great success and would like to do it again. My starting weight is 12 stone and tomorrow will be day 1.
  2. drink 2l of water a day. Starting tomorrow too.
  3. stay on top of emails and life admin. Reply to emails and log all events every day. And sort out life admin every Friday.

I know it’s not much but I’d like to try and do this until the end of the month and see where I am. There’s other stuff I’d love to add too.

Great thread. I would also love to drink 2 litres of water a day. I find it so difficult especially this time of year. I'll start tomorrow too. Best of luck 🤞

I have to take medication once a week which involves drinking about a litre of water and then not eating for an hour or so. I find I feel great after drinking that much water first thing. If you struggle, why not try that so that you've drunk half the amount before you've even started the day?

Last year I picked one thing a month to implement with the view that it would become habit. So, January was to bring a home made lunch every day. Eating healthier and saving about 150 a month. February was for me to drink a litre by lunchtime, March was doing a morning cardio workout and April's was to maje better sleep habits so on.

Many of my 2024 goals have stuck and are part of my daily routine without thinking. I love the method as it works really well and tackling one a month helps keep it focused and achievable

I need to de-clutter the house, sort and file mounds of admin paperwork, do photobooks, exercise more and go on more holidays.

Just waiting for the last dc to go to university in September but even just his finishing his A levels will be a welcome breather.

I've been lazy regarding unnecessary expenses. This year so far, I've been bringing lunch to work instead of mostly just picking something up. I'm also planning to abstain from any 'treat' takeaways. They've become so expensive.

What great inspiring replies!

healthybychristmas that's a great tip. I'm going to try that tomorrow - but can I ask do you find you need to go to the loo a lot? I'm always worried about drinking a large amount quite quickly in case I then need to keep going to the loo when it's inconvenient.

PabloTheGreat I love this! It's made me think about what else although I do get carried away but if I can make these stick - just until the end of this month! - I think I might be on a roll and the aim is to add more stuff and incrementally improve my life. Can I ask what the rest of your year's monthly aims were?

Today, I've managed to not have any pastries/biscuits/chocolates so far and have brought in a healthy lunch to work as it's normally my achilles heel that I eat in the cafe to make myself feel better. I've also written an email that I was putting off early this morning. My aim by the end of the day is to send all the emails I need to so I'm on top of things and also log in all my diary events on my phone and paper diary.

Others were starting Couch to 5k (kinda stuck with it until about October, I don't do the cold well!) implement elimination of UPFs so one month we started bread making, the next we started making more things from scratch, the next we eliminated takeaways except for every couple of months. When we had our recent power cut we lived on takeaways and couldn't believe how little we enjoyed them now! No alcohol on a school night was another one. I was finding even a small glass or two of wine was really disruptive to my sleep so I cut it right back.

There's some that didn't really get off the ground - learning French for example, or joining a yoga class and repainting the doors and skirting, but overall I ended the year eating better, sleeping better, fitter, marginally lighter and happier overall.

Among this years ones my goals are to restart the fitness ones, so running, cardio and yoga are a must. I also want to start the hypnosis audio file for weight loss again as it was helpful a few years ago for me, plus if I'm eating better and moving more, I want to be toned with it. An added incentive is the holiday booked for August!

I started saving for Christmas (we've a recycle scheme here in Ireland so all that money gets loaded onto a supermarket savings card - I think I'll have a few hundred by November if I top it up with a tenner or a fiver every once in a while.) I started that one in January, and I've already got about 40 euros on it.

But there's also things that are frivolous on my list- this month I'm just all about wearing gloves when in the sink because I always forget until halfway through the dishes and I want nice strong nails like I used to have. I'll also start conditioning and minding them, and things like moisturising instead of forgetting. I'm also going to keep on top of waxing and my doing my eyebrows as I feel great when those are done.

I'll do the language podcast on my commute to work and DS has started also doing it on Duolingo so I've got a partner in crime now!

Great thread.

Unfortunately my 2025 has started off worse than ever. I am sluggish, eating everything in sight, hiding from the rest of the world, crawling out of bed to wfh with no wash/teeth/shower, ridiculous amount of takeaways, not wanting to do anything.

My goals were (are?) to :

lose 1.5 stone
be more energetic
take better care of myself
say no more
eat better
reduce MSG

I just cannot get started. I had cancer treatment in Jan (non-chemo) and am struggling with the fall out of that

PabloTheGreat · 19/02/2025 21:07

Poorlong I'm sorry to hear that.

I think though you should flip your thinking... your January goal was getting vital treatment and your February one should be recovery and self care because that's what you need right now. Then in March, maybe introduce a small thing. Maybe it's gentle exercise or cutting down on takeaways once your energy levels recover a bit. You'll get there. 😊
