Listening to the news and wondered how this can on? Can Europe really stand up to Russia without US? Will UK troops be on the ground soon?

Interesting.

Western Europe need a reality check. I mean, even now, we're calling for net zero, demilitarisation etc. We spent so many decades relying on US power to protect us from the USSR, then Russia, while reducing our defence spending year on year. I mean, one pro Brexit argument was 'we'll be made to be part of a nasty EU army!'. I think it would be better for all of us to consider this!

It's time we grew up.

I think it's important to recognise geopolitical positions; the US is far more vexed about China than we are; we're far more vexed about Russia than the US is. China/USA is trade; Russian/western Europe is war.

IMO China is screwed. They achieved in 2, tops three generations what it took the west 3-400 years to do; really impoverished agrarian peasants to a cashed-up, Louvre visiting middle class in 2 generations. Then a catastrophic population collapse. Like us.

Russia is also pretty much bankrupt, but I realise it doesn't make them less dangerous. Georgia and others are in danger (more so than Finland!), but IMO, Russia, post Putin, is equally screwed.

They hate us, yet they'd sell their grandmother to be us. Remember that.
