Reposted from the Trump thread

Dmitry Grozoubinski:

Full text of the Ukraine-US Minerals Deal.

  1. Seems fine (an investment and reconstruction fund);
  2. Has no resemblance to what the Trump administration has been saying about it;
  3. Can't tell if Ukraine is good at diplomacy, or Trump bad at it.

Do you think there are some saner voices in DTs inner circle that push towards wiser actions?

There seems to be a large gap between what Trump says and what his aides say or do.

Interesting that the "why do we prioritise Ukraine" thread was zapped.

That will be the Reform angle. "Why are we backing Ukraine ? etc etc". Which is a great vector to slide in snarks about hospitals and immigrants under the cover of refugees. Sadly very easy to start such threads with an air of wide-eyed innocence to draw the less cynical in.

However, speaking of Reform, it's interesting what current events are doing to keep Farage quiet. I guess he can't risk being honest about his funding from Putin at the moment.

Let's hope there are indeed saner voices around him.

It's easy to distract him with a video of himself in gold.

He'll need a lot of paper for the Roubles income.

There was a lot of talk on that thread about the OP being a Russian bot

Just popping in with my now standard observation for a Wednesday that Badenoch was absolutely minced by Keir Starmer at PMQs.

She is lazy as a toad, that woman. What work does she actually do?

Past performance ie doing nothing in government and being unclubbable seems to have been a strong indicator she would be terrible, you can only assume her support are simple minded enough to believe her finger wagging will get traction.

Good luck Kemi. You are discovering no one owes you a living or respect.

Which suggests that the general level of understanding in the UK has already passed the "Is there anything going on in Ukraine ?" level of ignorance. Quite a watershed bearing in mind that even as Operation Desert Storm raged, some folks asked why the Q8 petrol stations were in the news.

When Elon is running the UK, how on earth can she find "5 things I did this week" ?

PickAChew · 26/02/2025 14:39

The Kellogg - Zelensky meeting seemed to be a stark example of Trump being at odds with those around him. He seemed to be having a bit of a tantrum that the talks weren't going the way he said they should be.

3 day old username is a bit of a giveaway.

I appreciated the thread. Overwhelming support for Ukraine and a handy way of flushing out some of the pro-Putin mob.

Don't be so mean to toads. They are an essential part of the marshland ecosystem and fulfil their function there very well. Whereas the Leader of the Opposition.... doesn't.

Notonthestairs · 26/02/2025 14:52

"When Elon is running the UK, how on earth can she find "5 things I did this week" ?"

  1. Defended Judeo Christian civilisation
  2. suggest SN kids receive economic advantages as a result of their disabilities
  3. suggest 10% of civil service should be in prison
  4. suggest maternity pay overburdens business.
  5. Dismiss sandwhiches as 'not real food'

I may have had to go back more than a week.

bombastix · 26/02/2025 14:52

@SerendipityJane

Kemi's five things

  1. Spoke to Michael Gove to ask for a sympathetic billing in the Spectator

  2. Drafted email stating all policy decisions would be deferred for five years. Did not send as still thinking the time period could be longer

  3. Spent 44 hours in front a mirror practising best face for PMQs. Chose "Blue Steel" from Zoolander

  4. Checked if have enough avois points to fly business to CPAC next year

  5. Drew up plans for the statute being planned for her new institute of leadership (construction imminent)

Notonthestairs · 26/02/2025 14:52

seems i cant spell sandwich.

Excellent work. Can I recommend Al Jazeera too? They have very good coverage of International issues, especially the Middle East.

Extraordinary briefing with Kemi Badenoch's official spokesman just now

He called for Donald Trump to intervene to block the Chagos Islands deal. Ie a foreign power over ruling our elected government here. When I asked for clarification he confirmed "we are calling for a foreign power" to block it.

Very on brand for Conservatives. A high proportion of them spend a lot of time in the US berating our administration, civil service and justice system. All of them having forgotten that they were very recently in power and responsible for all of those things.

Notonthestairs · 26/02/2025 16:16

What else would the Conservative Party like Trump to overrule our elected government about?

If the Conservatives are ever to get anywhere near power again I think we should invite the French to oversee their administration.

Maybe we could have a general election to decide which foreign power we'd like to put in charge of our government.
