Desperate for some 13th Birthday suggestions!

It's soon DD's 13 and I've nothing for her! I found a pair of trousers that I'm sure she'd love and ordered the smallest possible size but they do not fit her in any shape or form because they're an adult cut. I can't find anything similar for children. At the moment, I'm thinking of keeping them and giving them to her in the hope she'll grow into them at some point and so that she has something to open on her birthday!

She is currently having a big clear out of her room and selling old toys, but this will probably just bring it down to a manageable level. I looked at buying her a musical instrument she plays but it's way too expensive. Not into make-up or jewellery. Doesn't need anything for sport. Says she doesn't want anything.

It’s a hard age. Have you looked at H&M or Hollister for clothes? Their smaller sizes are good for teens. Or Mango teen range or Abercrombie kids?

what about an experience - Harry Potter Warner bros studio or tickets to a musical?

UselessMumAlert · 15/02/2025 08:39

She doesn't actually want or is interested in clothes (and she has enough anyway). These were special ones. She saw someone wearing a pair of trousers with an animal embroidered on the side, it's always been her favourite animal; I've been looking for about 6 months, and they're the only pair I've found.

MIL has been looking to take her to a show, but she needs to book now for the end of September and we can't book that far ahead as we don't know DD's match schedule for the next season yet. So, theatre/musical I need to leave for her, I'll suggest she gives DD a "voucher" and they'll have to book when we know dates.

Soft furnishings
Lava lamp
Carnivorous plant or cactus
Cinema tickets
Books
Games (electronic or board games)
Kindle
Crafts
Experiences but doesn't have to be big ones - could be afternoon tea, an outing to a favourite place etc.
Photo props and accessories
Pyjamas
Consumables - toiletries etc or favourite foods

Alternatively and more generally, since she's said she doesn't want presents, focus on making the day a very special one - decorations, special food, cake, flowers, bunting, slideshow of the last year, rewatching a favourite film, etc. etc

@Mandarinaduck do you have any suggestions for a board game? We are moving house soon and she is not happy about it so have already said we will upgrade her room when we move.

Ticket to Ride and Mantis are popular with our teens

GreenElfWitch · 16/02/2025 10:40

Would she like the musical instrument, and (if so), is there any way you can make this happen?

Pancakewaffle · 16/02/2025 10:46

Do you have any local embroiderers nearby? You could buy the trousers without the animal and get someone to do it?

CatteryCatss · 16/02/2025 10:48

What is she interested in generally, OP?

How about a top or a jumper to go with her new trousers?

CatteryCatss · 16/02/2025 10:50

Perhaps take her for lunch at a board game cafe? If there’s one local to you?

Beamur · 16/02/2025 10:51

Not a board game but quite daft - throw throw burrito..
Cobra Paw
Ghost blitz
Is hair chalk still a thing?
Hoodie
Fluffy socks
Stickers
Artwork for new room/fairy lights

Azul
Rummikub
Sushi Go
Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza (this is a card game, portable and good for playing with friends)

Mandarinaduck · 16/02/2025 12:58

Oh and Time's Up is another fun and easy game for all ages.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/02/2025 13:00

Can you buy a secondhand instrument?
