Galentines - did nobody watch Parks & Recreation?

I've seen so many people bashing 'Galentines' day over the last few weeks and people genereally perplexed about it. Did nobody ever watch Parks & Recreation?!

For the record, the protagonist who invented it was totally cringeworthy - that was the whole point! It was supossed to make you feel embarrassed for her in the same way you people about Alan Partridge!

Alan Partridge indeed. Could Alan Partridge produce a 6 binder, colour coded, fully cross-referenced defence of the benefits of celebrating female friendships in the length of time it takes me to type this post? I don't think so.

Parks and Rec is the best. As is Leslie with her binders. I always think of that P&R episode on Valentine's day!

No, nobody watched Parks & Rec over here! I don’t understand how it didn’t get massive over the pandemic like how The Office blew up again - is it even still available on streaming? I watched it on prime but didn't it disappear?

For years I had a phone case that said ‘what would Leslie Knope do?’ And not a single person got it.

I think this is one but I can't be sure as I can't face it again.

I loved it! Will have to watch again.

My mate saw Ron Swanson in Glasgow Central Station when they were filming the journey to Islay. We were So Excited!

I loved how they could do unapologetically sentimental segments like that but totally pull it off. Such good tv.

In the first season she was kind of a joke figure, earnest but incompetent. I think the writers based her on Michael Scott from the Office. It didn't quite work, so from season 2 they shifted the character to be smarter and more competent. By later seasons, she's ferociously competent and the laughs come from her other foibles - but you're laughing fondly, not mockingly.

Interestingly, they did something similar with Michael Scott, who was quite odious in season one and then from season two became a more likeable character. You can laugh at his many flaws and ridiculousness, but still root for him.

I love Leslie. I will admit it, in many ways I am Leslie.

I may or may not have 4 Leslie Knope funko pops on my desk.

Ron Swanson is the man.

As well as my Leslie phone case, I quote Ron on an almost daily basis. My semi skimmed milk was subbed for skimmed on my supermarket delivery a few weeks ago and I sent it back telling the driver

Leslie Knope is no Alan Partridge! She's exactly who you'd want as your galentine.

And Ron Swanson is the perfect man.

I must also respectfully disagree with the comparison of the amazing Leslie Knope and Alan Partridge-names that should not be spoken together!

One is a blustering buffoon who we enjoy laughing at and the other is the best of us all!
