I have been having investigations this week for some potential kidney issues - i was in the day ward a day last week and again on tuesday. Today im supposed to be back having a heart scan plus i have been doing a 24 hour urine collection. I also started some new medication a few days ago so its probablt to review that?. I think some more blood tests but overnight i have started too feel awful my throat is really sore my chest is wheezy and coughing. I tried to call but they open at the time im meant to be there !

im not sure if i should turn up or not! My husband thinks i should as the investigations are important but i feel bad taking this cold/virus in there.

should i just go in? I dont know why this is worrying me so much but it is!

I think if you can get there then you should. Let them know you're unwell with a cold and ask for a mask.

Yes, don’t lose your spot.

You'd be crazy to miss your investigations. Wear a mask, use antibacterial gel/wash hands regularly.

It sounds very important. Go and get a mask if you can

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 14/02/2025 07:55

Definitely go, but wear a mask.

Jk987 · 14/02/2025 07:57

Dose up with paracetamol or a cold and flu remedy. Drink lots of fluid. Hot shower to breathe in the steam then wrap up warm and go.

Don't miss the appointment.

If you can get there, go. Where a mask - in fact, one of our main hospitals is asking people to wear masks in many departments.

I had to miss a long awaited review appointment at the hospital a few weeks ago because I felt so ill with cough temp etc. I asked if the consultant could phone me instead which he did.
If I was supposed to be having a scan and other investigations I'd have made a huge effort to go and taken someone with me to help.

LittleMonks11 · 14/02/2025 08:05

I'd make every effort to get there if a heart scan has been scheduled.

Wear a mask - and take a human with you if possible.

All the best

I had a similar thing a while ago - bad sore throat, body aches, headache etc but due for a minor day surgery.. I called the day before and explained, they said to do a Covid lateral flow, if it’s not Covid just come in if I can manage it with mask etc… they seemed keen to get me in! I think feeling unwell made me a bit more nervous for the procedure but ultimately it made no difference.. I’d say go if you can!
