I'm so unhealthy and need to change

I'm a mess and can't stop eating crap. I don't know what's wrong with me. I know what to do but just can't seem to sort myself out. I feel awful. So lethargic.
I never feel I have enough sleep, I'm doing scrolling too much. Snacking far too much.
My hair is a mess.
I like the support people can give each other so I thought I'd put this out there and see if there's anyone else in the same situation who wants to change.

This is me! Troughed my way through a whole box of maltesers yesterday, wasn't even hungry. Feel like I've spiralled out of control.

Would love to join you in climbing out of the pit of despair and hopefully someone will be a long soon with words of wisdom.

blackheartsgirl · 13/02/2025 10:04

I’m the same. I live in scruffy trackies and hoodies, my hair needs a cut and colour and my nails are terrible. I eat crap, sleep terribly and do little to no excercise .

i know what im supposed to do but i just can’t seem to find the will power to do it!

Itonlytakesone · 13/02/2025 10:09

I feel same! Life just feels so mundane same routine every day and when you go in shops no one seems 'happy' everyone seems to just be getting through the days. Maybe it's the time of year dull cloudy weather every day.

I live in same clothes, haven't coloured my hair in ages I don't eat the best have zero will power and don't drink enough water! I only walk locally to do school run/shops. I'm hoping to get my mojo back after half term Confused

I'm going to throw it out there and say it's the gloom of winter . This countries weather is awful so we are struck with lethargy, want to do no more than eat crap in front of the telly . Going out for walks / exercise seems an insurmountable task in shitty weather so we sit on the sofa not needing to take care of our hair and body and general wellbeing .

FrowningJester · 13/02/2025 10:52

Sorry so many feel the same but reassuring to have company.
The weather doesn't help but I feel I'm in a vicious cycle which is spiralling more and more downwards.
I'm sure if I felt better, I'd do more and go out more, make better food choices which would make me feel better.
I'd have more energy to sort my hair out, do more with the dc, so many things.

Where is everyone starting. I feel for me it has to start with food.

I go through cycles of this. I'm in one now, since before Christmas. For me, I know I need to make a small consistent change which snowballs into many consistent changes.

If I can find motivation to eat a breakfast with loads of fibre and protein, instead of sugary cereal and buttery toast, I feel better and then I don't need to snack before lunch. If I feel better, I'm more likely to put on decent clothes and give my hair a going over. If I look presentable, I'm more likely to go for a walk which makes me feel better.

Life events derail me. If there's shit going on, I want to eat and drink and distract myself with my phone. And my good habits feel so fragile its hard to pick them back up again.

FrowningJester · 13/02/2025 11:00

@TwoFatDucklings I get totally what your saying. This is me too.
I'm sick of feeling crap now.
I've not had breakfast yet as I just don't know what to have. I don't eat eggs and I don't want bread or porridge and I can't skip breakfast totally (intermittent fasting) as it makes me want to eat and eat when I can.
A breakfast around 11 suits me best.

TwoFatDucklings · 13/02/2025 11:03

I'm starting with food too. I'm taking vitamin D and vitamin C tablets. I'm having protein powder (collagen) in my morning coffee and branflakes for breakfast. I made a weeks worth of veg soup yesterday, so lunches will be healthy. I'm going to stop drinking alcohol again, even a glass of wine makes me feel shit the next day.

I do better at going for a walk if my dh comes too and we can have a nice chat, so must start suggesting that on an evening. I want to start lifting weights again, but that feels impossible right now!

coldscottishmum · 13/02/2025 11:05

This is an accurate description of me. I eat rubbish, all the time. Rarely take care of my personal appearance, hair always scraped into a bobble and in hoodies and leggings. Feel like a shadow of my former self!

Itonlytakesone · 13/02/2025 11:09

I eat better if iv gone out on a long walk and feel a bit better after it. Iv decided to start this the Monday after half term

(I know it's ages off..! But if I start this week I wont be able to go again over half term and end up disappointed with myself)

I'll aim for 5 miles that day.
That is my only goal so far! Smile

TwoFatDucklings · 13/02/2025 11:10

@FrowningJester do you have to have traditional breakfast foods at breakfast? What if you had 2 lunches instead? So long as they're healthy and filling.

Ilovelowry · 13/02/2025 11:23

Hi OP. I'm Mrs Motivated usually. But even I'm struggling at this point in February.

Sick of the still grey cold days and the high pressure that's holding it here.

Sick of my chilblains and walking the dogs with sore hands and feet. Sick of the monotony.

I think hang on until the daffodils are all out in March and you can smell spring in the air and that will help your motivation levels.

FrowningJester · 13/02/2025 13:44

@TwoFatDucklings you're right. I can eat anything. It doesn't have to be breakfast food but I just never know what. Today I ended up having miso soup then some cheese, then I cooked some chick pea concoction.
Normally I'd eat a sandwich or toast then keep getting hungry.

OP posts:
FrowningJester · 13/02/2025 13:46

@Ilovelowry the weather is really unpleasant but I'm worried that if I don't do anything about it now, I'll just feel worse and worse and when spring comes, I won't have the motivation to go out as I'll look and feel so awful.

Make yourself a list of things you want to address and set yourself a challenge to make one change a week. That way it doesn't seem too overwhelming and you don't have to tackle everything at once. Start simple, such as drink more water and drink less sugary drinks for example. Then maybe set an aim to walk for half an hour a couple of times a week. Start small and work your aim up

DailyEnergyCrisis · 13/02/2025 14:03

Do one of the 10 minute beginner workouts by Joe Wicks or someone to get up and moving a bit and drink a few glasses of water. Tomorrow do a shop which includes some fruit, veg and protein. One task and one day at a time.

I started the year feeling like many of you on the thread- eating crap constantly and glued to my phone. I made myself do a few work outs and cut down on the constant junk food I was thoughtlessly mainlining and I am feeling much better about myself. Good luck- do one task at a time.

FrowningJester · 13/02/2025 20:06

I need to exercise more. I try to go for a walk every day but recently that's become very irregular. I went for a walk today and ate reasonably well but I'm so tired today.
