Yes. Years ago. Worst mistake I ever made. The Samsung I had suffered from a swollen battery (repeatedly). Wouldn't hold charge. If I tried to take a photo it would overheat and switch off, so I have no photos of my only child as a baby. Switched back to iPhone and haven't looked back.

Swapped years ago. Best decision I made. Depending where you are samsung have shops like apple do. Their staff are amazingly helpful at answering questions and helping with swapping. Android is far superior. I was a die hard apple geek for years. Would never go back.

I swapped from iPhone to Google Pixel phone and it's brilliant. I don't think I'd go back to iPhone now.

Could you back photos onto OneDrive?

MrsJamin · 09/02/2025 22:08

I wouldn't bother with Samsung for an android phone, too much bloatware. Just get a Google pixel, much better value than an iPhone.

I only moved over to iPhone about three years ago up until then I always had a Samsung, I much prefer the iPhone and wouldn’t go back. I have an external hard drive that I back my photos up to as I don’t want to be tied to Apple Cloud. I use a photo stick to get the photos off my phone.

OP, download Google photos app and save all your photos and videos to it. This is what I do. They automatically save so they are “extra” backed up, so not just on iCloud. You can also still log into your iCloud account on the web, and even download Apple Music app to Android. I looked into switching recently but haven’t made the move yet.

This is the simplest. I’ve gone back and forth between Samsung and iPhone a couple of times.
All my photos are backed up.
the biggest issue I’ve ever had is passwords. My laptop is a Mac so that was handy for all the saved passwords I couldn’t remember. I won’t change from iPhone again but when I was switching the thing I spent most time doing was resetting bloody passwords.

MrsJamin · 11/02/2025 16:55

I'd never save passwords on a device, much safer to use something like 1password to be able to access them securely on any device. Not a good reason to keep a device.

I guess you're really asking about switching from iPhone to Android; there's loads of Android phones, it wouldn't have to be a Samsung. But what you're really really asking about is how to maintain your digital assets. Keeping everything in a single digital (Apple) cloud is fine until it stops working, or you can't access it, or you change phones, or you die and you don't tell anyone your password (happens). So do think about duplicating your valuable digital stuff, regardess of switching phones. Just saying!

Yup few years back and don't regret it.

Have you got amazon prime, you can upload all your pics to their cloud

YarkYark · 11/02/2025 17:17

Unless you pay, Google photos doesn't save your photos at full resolution.

Hotpinkangel19 · 11/02/2025 18:55

Yes then switched back again!
